More tonneau cover talk - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I have some sketches for a hard cover. It would sit on the bed rails. I think I can build the frame with a light wood and then fiberlass it for protection. It would sit on the bedrails. The cover would hinge from behind the bench seat. The rest of the bed rails (from just behind the bench to the doors) cover would be for symetry.

The question is how to finish of the sides where it meets the doors. Do you just round it off a bit like a regular cover. Our doors sit higher than the bed rails and the steel is bent in at a radius. I could build the top to match but I wonder if that is too ornamental to have that running all the way to the back of the bed rails.

I don't know...

What do you guys think. Will it even look good?

i've been going through a similar thought process, ever since nathan and carter posted that model for porterbuilt roadster blazer. I like that idea of a "secure-ish" trunk-type space.

My thought was going to be to mount it to the top of the bedrails, with a frame thick enough to be flush with the top of the doors. a smoother look without door mods, if you will. It would be a "u" shape, where its sides extend forward of the rear bench and then slope or taper down beside them. i'll see if i can mod a pic to 'splain...

I think we might be talking similar stuff.

My buddy that owns the hot rod shop is going to make mine out of aluminum and it will mate up to the half cab. There will be some kind of seal between the half cab and the bed cover to keep the rain and weather out. He said at some point in time that he wanted it to be as high as the door but I don't know what he has up his sleeve. Maybe in the next year I will have one but to me it seems it will be hard to get one as high as the door and get it to look right. To me the thing I would like to see someone do is build up the bed to be as tall as the door and the tailgate as well.

We are all pretty much on the same page. My top is on during the winter. So a perfect seel to half calb would not be needed. Plus I want to keep the bench seat.

How to finish it off is the issue.

Personally, I want to find out how much more my future system is going to thump once the tonneau goes on!!!
