Opinions on best Headers

I have been looking online (Summit) for headers for my project Blazer and the choices and info I am seeing makes me uneasy buying a set, the "what fits your vehicle" pops up contradictory information. I have not called Summit but I recall a thread where a board member had a nightmare time finding a set that would fit his Blazer.

Do any of you have a specific set of headers you like for a 4WD, part number and where you got them? I don't want to buy something and find out I have to send them back or something. Thanks for your help!!

Re: Opinions on best Headers

IME, Heddman's are the way to go. When I did them, they were the only ones that would clear the stock clutch linkage. It looks like 68-72 Corvette headers can be used as well most likely. Mine finally quit sealing well around the collector flanges.

I finally ditched mine them in favor of the 2 1/2" Corvette cast iron exhaust manifolds. Unless you are doing a max power build, this seems to be the way to go. Mine make at least as much power with the 2 1/2" exhaust and Dynomax Hemi Turbos as it did with the 2 1/4" exhaust and headers. And it has a great tone but is really quiet under the hood.

Re: Opinions on best Headers

I think it was Jtrux that ended up using the Hooker headers for the best fit. The part number from Summit is HOK-2453HKR . I have Hedman headers on my big block, and they fit well. I plan on using the Hookers though when I but my small block in. I think both brands are a good choice.

Re: Opinions on best Headers

I have Hedman "Elites" on "GQ" Can't so nuthing bad about them, they are
3/4 length and are nowhere near the spring hangers like most headers are.
They have ball flanges, ceramic coated, thick flanges, and $275 delivered.
I'll be putting the same thing on my 2wd "Merlot" (Just a different part #)

These look like the ones he was talking about.

I looked at set that were for a Camero today and really liked the fact that there was a lot of room for the spark plug access. That will be a big help when I put my Vortec motor in if they are set up the same way.

Re: Opinions on best Headers

I may end up going with the same ones myself. I just wish they did not come already coated though. I like the Jet-Hot finish better.

Re: Opinions on best Headers

Unless you like tightening bolts all the time, and if you don't catch them in time, replacing gaskets as well. Plus having to change all your plugs while hanging over the radiator. I'd recomend you keep your cast iron. I have a 72 that I put Heddmans on back in 72. Like the guy said. It was all you could get back then. After a case of gaskets, and a lot of burned arms I wish I would have kept my cast ones. I Moved out of Arizona 30 years ago, and threw them away.
