Help Please - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I just purchased a 1970 C/10 CST with 70,000 miles in light green metalic. I am the second owner and this pickup is extremely clean. I'm considering restoration. There are a couple things that bother me, first below the badges on the front corner panels are 4"X 5" stickers (which read "UTAH 6000). Does anyone know how to remove something like this without damaging the paint? Second issue, this pickup was retrofitted with two gas tanks under the bed (i know this was common in these years). Anyone have any advice on what I should do to cover the missing metal if I want to remove? Thanks for your help!

TO REMOVE STICKERS....GO TO A PAINT SHOP (AUTOMOTIVE) AND GET A RUBBER WHEEL THAT HOOKS UP TO YOUR DRILL. IT WILL MAKE A MESS, BUT REMOVE STICKERS WITHOUT HURTING PAINT.

you could also go to wallmart and get some 3M emblem and adheasive remover.

Its in the auto paint section.

I like to use a hair dryer to warm up the sticker, it will usualy peel right off. Heat the area you are peeling as you peel on a large sticker.

Then you are left with the stickey goo. WD 40 will take that right off.

Wash area real well then re-wax

If the sticker is really old, you might need a real heat gun rather than killing your wife's hair dryer. They should rent them at the rent-a-tool joint. Just be carefull not to scorch the paint.

Thanks much, I appreciate the great ideas! anyone out there removed the aftermarket fuel tanks? Words of advice on the bodywork?

tank could be dealer item, therefore original..., the heat gun idea is a good one, that should do it, plus maybe some steam too would be great.

I had saddlebags under my truck that were all rusty inside so i ripped them out, it was a huge pain in the rear to get em out cuz the bolts were crappy and all. The fill hole for my truck was in the side of the bed, about 10" behind the front line of the bed. It had a cover and everything so it looked like a pretty cool thing. I didnt want to have a patch panel put over it because i might install those tanks (or somethign else) where cover is. If you decide to cover the hole i'm sure a competant welder can put a patch panel on for you and it'll look great. Might even have a board member near you that could do it.

If those stickers have been there for any length of time they will still show if the paint is faded at all. When I bought mine it had a horse head, yes I said a horse head, sticker on the door. After useing most of the above suggestions to remove it - it was still there if you know what I mean. Had to finally paint over it. Hope yours turns out better. Post some pic's would like to see it.

that rubber wheel is also called an "eraser", my uncle owns a body shop and he has one, we used it to help pull old stickers of a police car, they work great!

I used the rubber wheel (aka eraser) and it worked great! the paint where the stickers used to be is slightly darker but not as much of an eyesore as the "UTAH 6000" stickers. I will take some pictures this weekend and post. Thank you everyone for your suggestions.
