Another Bearclaw Question

Hey guys my Dad and I are in the process of completing our 48 chevy pickup and decided to ditch the factory door latches in favor of bearclaws. I order the small autoloc latches and install kit about a week ago. My question is, is it possible to connect the inside door handle to the new latch? The steel rod if you will that runs from the inside door handle to the old latch seems to need something to connect it to the new one. What needs to happen here? ANy help would be great.
