need info....1/2 ton vs 2 ton

hey guys, just ran into a really good 1949 2 ton cab and complete doghouse. Does anyone know if the cabs for the 2 tons are the same for the 1/2 tons and are the fender bolt locations in the same spot on the cab. . Im assuming that the hood fenders and inners are different. The grille looks to be the same but not sure. I think that the splash pan and grille pan are the same as well. any and all info would be really appreciated.

thanks

brian

The cab itself is the same but everything in front of the cab is different as far as I know.

1/2-, 3/4- and 1-ton all use the same sheet metal. Larger Chevys except the COE's use the same cabs but the front clip is different. With GMC's there are some much larger trucks that have different cabs, but mostly the cabs are the same as the trucks.

Re: need info....1/2 ton vs 2 ton

I don't think the holes are in the same place. The big truck fenders sit much higher so unless the fenders have more "roll under" for the bolt flange I don't know how they can share holes. My big truck cab parted ways with the fenders via rot so I can't really answer for sure! I'd like to know for "just in case" future projects...like putting my 2 ton cab on a late model truck frame...

And I don't believe the grills are the same either.

Re: need info....1/2 ton vs 2 ton

There are some grill parts that can be made to interchange between the big trucks and the little trucks but for the most part they are different. Since I've never tried to mix and match the parts myself I'm a little weak on the details.

I'm pretty sure the fender holes in the cabs are in the same place. I say this because I have a GMC 450 series front clip currently stored on a Chevy 1-ton and though it doesn't have all the bolts in it, it was not a challenge to get it to sit there close to right.
