54 gmc sub-frame install

All right guys your not gonna believe this. after i did the nova sub frame swap on my truck i was trying to figure out what to do for the front crossmember that the front radiator support and sheetmetal attache to. so after looking at tons of different threads i was just goin to fab one. Thats when i saw the original trans crossmember i had taken off the nova sub-frame laying in the corner of the garage. I thought no way that it would line up or even fit. so i grabbed it and started mocking it up. Not only did it fit like it was made for the radiator support to fit in from the factory but it lined up exact with factory holes where the sway bar attached and it sat at the exact height i needed for the core and front sheet metal. I think the truck gods were smiling upon me today... Check out the picts.

I like the way it looks like the factory did it.

I see you store tools under the truck just like I do. Its a good use of space.

Re: 54 gmc sub-frame crossmember. (picts.)

Ok. Here is what the original trans. crossmember looked liked. After a little of wire wheel magic and cutting and welding. I had to remove the area on the ends where they had smashed the tubing together and raised it to make it the same length. check out picts.

Re: 54 gmc sub-frame install

Here is the finished product. All i have to do is drill and tap the holes for the core to mount. Oh ya almost forgot if you do this be carefull when tightening the bolts in the factory sway bar holes they strip very easy. I found out the hard way. I think im gonna make a access hole on the side and put nuts on the inside. Whata guys think???
