I know where there is a fairly decent 2wd burb at here in west central wy for under 1000.00. The main problem with it is someone cut a hole in the roof for a vent

That looks great. A lot of people would have given up, I am glad you kept on rolling. That burb is very cool, and it's great to see that it's almost on the road again.

Re: Ahhh I almost rolled my Burb last night!

Aluminum wheels falling off is a pretty common problem - due to the fact that you have to torque the wheels, drive 20 miles and then torque them again.

Once upon a time, a long time ago, I bought a set of new winter tires for my panel truck. The tire shop that installed them did not tighten all the lug nuts on the left rear wheel.

About a day later, it fell off at 4 AM in the morning on my way home from a party at a local university 30 miles away.

We had to take all the wheels off, take one stud out of each wheel, put the tire back on. The brand new winter tire had a big old slit in the sidewall and was leaking air. We made it about 3 miles before it went flat and then we had to get out and put the spare tire on the truck. You don't think too clear when you are drunk and it is 4 o'clock in the morning.

Long story short, my buddies left the jack in the parking lot of a local bar and the next day when I went back to get it - it was not there.

The 5 bolt hubs and the disc brakes were a better set up then the 6 bolt hubs and the drum brakes.

From time to time, I would have to pull over and wind down the adjusters on the front brakes - because the brake drum would wind itself up and the wheel would lock up. I really hated that set up. Along with the manual brakes.

Re: Ahhh I almost rolled my Burb last night!

Thanks everyone, I am damn happy I decided to fix her back up. I have a bunch more to be done as soon as we are settled in the new house in the next few weeks, and cannot wait to introduce her to PCH and cruise my old stomping grounds.

Re: Ahhh I almost rolled my Burb last night!

It doesnt look like I did much...but let me tell you cutting into my baby and using a come-a-long and straps to pull the pillar back was a scary endeavor. My neighbor gave me some funny looks when i started whackin on it with a 10 lb sledge!!! But after a lil cut, grind, whack, and weld it is pretty damned good for a driveway job.

I have found I religiously check my lugs now even though the studs are way longer and stronger than before. I just dont want to have to ever go through this crap ever again.
