project: dueling blazers

i am starting a build thread for both my dads 83 k5 4x4 and my own 85/78 k5 4x4.

here is some info to bring you up to date:

my truck : 1985 k5 blazer with 78 front clip

motor:350 crate motor, holley 650 carb, edelbrock intake, heddman headers and full 3in flowmaster exhaust

4 inch lift on 35 procomp xtreme mud terrains
many other small mods to many to list
truck currently has a blown 700r4 that is in process of being rebuilt.
plan is to make it into a streetable mud truck eventually receiving a cage and other modifications

my dads truck:1983 k4 4x4

motor: 305 orginial with 4 barrel rochester

stock height and missing a transmission

truck has some rot but plan is to build it into a mild street/ trail truck for the weekends. it will be getting a 4spd conversion and full exhaust and other ideas are on the way.
here are some pics

Re: project: dueling blazers

here are the two parts truck we have a 1978 k5 4x4(under blue tarp) and a 1984 k5 4x4(one with plow frame)

the 4spd parts are all coming from the 1978 truck. as of yet i have all the parts to convert 2 trucks to a 4 spd manual which includes 2 sm465 manuals and 2 np2o5 transfercases. plus the pedal and clutch assemblies.

Re: project: dueling blazers

well due to a mishap in my votech shop my trans ended up falling off the trans jack and completely destroying the case. soo looks like i am going to be swapping in the 4spd for my truck after all. once my transmission situation with my truck is takin care of work will start on my father brown blazer. here are the pics of the 700r4

Re: project: dueling blazers

sucks to hear about your trans. i had a similar mishap with my 70 k25. i had just done a sm465 swap and had the previous th350/np203 combo (still mated together) on the tailgate...went to take it for a test run....didnt check the bed for anything that would fly off...and with 9" of lift and 38s...i think you know the rest. it was quite the fall. haha put a divot in the road and totally ruined the tail end of the trans but it wasn't bad cuz the bell housing looked like this

you can kinda see what it did to the tail.

Re: project: dueling blazers

dang! thats a heavy hit. i may be getting a new case from a pick and pull for my trans because all the internals are brand new and not damaged and it would be good to get the 300 dollars in parts outta it by having a spare trans or selling it

Re: project: dueling blazers

I'm having to do the same with that th350 also since I had just rebuild it like 3 months earlier. I have plenty of cases to swap the internals into.

Re: project: dueling blazers

as for the clutch I used a cheap one from a local parts store. I think I paid like 20-30 bucks and it works fine.
