First Post - New member for So Cal.

Hello,

I have been a member on the board for the last couple of months, just checking things out in preparation for my new project. I just picked the truck up last weekend. As you can see it is a 68 longbed (wood), it looks like it was originally a tan/gold color, with saddle interior, 350/350 combo (327 originally), manual drum brakes all around and power steering. It runs, kind of, blowing some white-ish smoke from the passenger side which I have to sort out. The brakes need to be bled, other wise I should be able to get it on the road shortly. I am hoping to make it a short bed, I originally wanted to swap to 5 lug, now I am thinking about baggin it on the 8 lugs. Has anyone on this forum done this? I searched last night but didnt find what I was looking for. The hood needs to be replaced as it is damaged from an engine fire as I am told by the PO.

First plan was to clean out the interior of all the mouse crap. this picture is with the bench removed and the rubber floor and padding removed.

Buildsheet still stuck in the seat back springs

Second plan of attach was to get rid of the hideous wheels and tires on this thing. Today I bought these original style 8 lug wheels from member leddzepp off craigslist. Should get me by until I figured out the exact plan.

I have pictures of the SPID but they are kind of blurry, couldnt get close enought with my POS digital camera.

Thanks,

Jerry

Re: First Post - New member for So Cal.

Update - About a month ago my dad and I did a compression check on the engine and number 6 had only like 10 lbs. Pulled the top end off and piston #6 was broken on the top compression ring and the piece blew a hole through the top of the cylinder. No. 5 cylinder was also broken on the top compression ring. The motor is pretty well shot so I am planning to pull it out to inspect the bottom end, hopefully it is still rebuildable

Question - Were the gas tanks in the bed sides a factory option or were they added by someone else? The gas doors are riveted on.
