Vent Windows

My vent windows are in horrible condition, the seals sucks, the metal "track" is rusted to hell, and the handles are pitted and loose as hell. What would be the best route to go as far as getting them to look and work like stock? Replace them as a whole unit? Piece by Piece? Or ditch the vents and go with the 1 pc kit? It will cost about $170 to "rebuild", $700 to replace, $600 for 1 piece.

Re: Vent Windows

I recently replaced mine with new assembiles from GM, and yes, they were expensive. But, they're worth every penny in my book.

I know u said that u bought them from GM but when I went to my local Chevy dealer for the weatherstripping bc I have aftermarket weatherstriiping that sill makes wind noise on highway, he told me that the weatherstripping for the vent windows was discontinued.

Dont know if weeatherstripping that has been sitting around for 25 + years is better than new aftermarket weatherstrip.

Some people said that if u use vent windows from later model truck- think 90 or 91 - that it solved the wind noise. Dont know if u have to change the wvent window also or if u can just change the to 91 weahterstrip and use original 80s vent windoe.

Please HELP- hate that wind noise

Re: Vent Windows

I was told use the newer ones, with the locks
and a slight bend in the vent frame will help get rid of the noise

Some of the weatherstripping may be discontinued, but most is still available. The vent window assemblies are still available, there is stock in Lansing when I checked a couple of months ago.

I have always tried to pull the ones out of newer Suburbans in the pick a part. The newer, usually the better condition of the rubber.

Thats what i just did, vents, glass and seal etc mine in the 78 were done... Lucky the vents fit all the years they do now using 89's.
The track felts were worn/cracked and
side glass is much thinner, almost half?
That glass width difference could sure lead to a "air leak"

Lol my jimmys top corner felts leak air so bad can't tell if the vents are air leakin, but not drivin it now till spring anyway

Yeah the some of the vent window weatherstripping is discontinued but I was referring to the brand new assemblies. They are still making those as the last one I got was made in May of this year.

Re: Vent Windows

RH is 15634472, LH is 15634472. The estimating software I am using shows that they may not come with glass. There are a couple of different designs of the glass, these assemblies would use the 85-91 style.

Re: Vent Windows

Open the window. Does the weather strip have a smaller channel in it? If so, you can stop part of the whistle. Using a dull screw driver, slip the smaller channel edge over the vent window. It should seal both sides. Buy some clear silicon. Seal the area around the pivot bolt. I did this to my truck. I have no wind noise at all. Not even at 100 MPH.

Not discontinued, but on a national back order without any sort of ETA date from the factory.

Re: Vent Windows

Regarding the backorder on the vent seals...I actually ordered a set back in the summer...took almost two months to get them. Vendor told me everyone was out of stock at the time. Mine eventually came, so, someone must be making them just not fast enough I guess.
