Blower motor fun

Hey guys and gals, I have a quick question for you. I did a quick search, and found little, so here goes: I just got home from work today and the blower motor won't shut off, even after I take the keys out of the ignition. The speed selector switch does nothing, either. It is stuck in high. I finally pulled the plug on the motor, to get it to quit. I assume the problem is with the relay, but wanted to make double sure. I would rather sit in the warm and type, than go outside with a multimeter. Can someone confirm this? It looks like they are $10, so I will give this a day, but I really don't like the idea of popping the hood to turn it on and off. Thanks for your help!

sounds like you have an issue of bare wires somewhere if its running after you turn the ignition off.

its probably the relay being stuck.
this is off the top of my head, but i believe the blower circuit is constant power, not ignition... only the trigger circuit for the high speed relay is ignition power..

of course, we both know the only way to be 100% sure is to get a meter out.

DING, DING, DING...We have a winner. Best $10 I have spent today. Now I won't have to mess with it in the morning. In true hillbilly fashion, I just pulled the plug from the old relay and plugged in the new one. It obviously doesn't have to be grounded, and isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Kinda reminds me of a new TV sitting on top of a non-working one. I picked up a new blower motor/fan combo, for the 88-98 trucks, while I was at it ($26, but made in china). Probably install that and bolt the new relay in tomorrow. I hope this helps someone in the future, and I will report any advantages of the later model motor, as well.

Just a quick update, I got the relay bolted on! Woohoo! Also got the new blower motor in. It came from Autozone, and was supposed to be the Continental, but the box says VDO. Made in China, but came with a wheel and was only $26. Part # is PM129. It is like I added another speed after high. Not sure if my old one was that worn out, but I did see a big difference with that one, which came out of a 90 Suburban that I parted out. Anyways, I know it has been covered before, but thought I would share my findings. It is a highly recommended upgrade! Just wish I wasn't so cheap. and went with the Delphi unit.

I also put a 88-98 blower motor in my 87 cause the old one was squealing when it got cold outside(and I had one lying around). Looking in the motor hole I know why(full of 20 years of crud) Anyway the new motor is great but I didnt see any noticable fan improvement?
