01 Front Disc pad wear is weird - common?

My buddy's 01 has weird pad wear of his front discs. The inboard pad is wearing MUCH faster than the outboard - like 4:1 or worse. The inboard pad has about 25% left & the outboard looks almost new. I told him it sounds like the calipers aren't floating like they should. I also noticed the pad wear is in the center of the rotor while the outer & inner edge has none. The ABS light also comes on intermittently but goes off by itself after a few starts too.

Any suggestions appreciated as I'll probably be putting new pads & maybe rotors on for him sometime soon. LMK if this is common to these years and/or any good way to rectify it from happening to the next set.

BTW, forgot to mention it is a Z71, 60K miles, with only 2" shackles to level in the rear. Tires are stock diameter only 18" aftermarket wheels. So no crazy mods to confuse things, pretty much stock. TIA for any help!!
