Smallest vehicle you have been saved by?

This is going to be embarrassing.

On the way home today me and a friend went to the local mud hole to test out his new ride, a 88 Toyota 4runner on 35" TSL boggers. After playing for a while and him getting stuck a few times and me pulling him out i decided to take the big mud hole that none of us had tried before. Maybe not my brightest moment as i have a stock 84 3/4 ton with 32x10.5" mud tires.

It seemed like a good idea at the time but as soon as i started into it i got a bad feeling and rammed it in reverse but it was already to late, front end went it and kept going, whole grill under water and water coming into the cab, maybe 2-3" from water going into the carb. No way was i getting out of that hole without help and floor was covered in water up to the hump in the floor.

So i climb out the slider with my recovery strap and hook it up to ym rear bumper and throw it to my buddy with the 4runner who says there is no way in hell he is going to be able to pull me out.

Well 60-70 pulls on the strap with 2 breaks for the runner to cool down and about a hour later he did manage to pull my ass out of there.

Moral of the story, if you are going to play in the mud in a full size take another full size with you

Re: Smallest vehicle you have been saved by?

Back when I beat up my trucks in mud pits...

I was in my 77k10 swb, and broke down in the worst place.

Got pulled all the way out and onto the highway for a tow truck to get to it and tow it home, by a 1981 Toyota 4x4 with a 4cyl and giant tires.

Ever since then I have had the greatest respect for those Toyota's, and as a matter of fact I sold that nightmare 77k10 to buy a 1983 Toyota 4x4.

Have owned a small Toyota 4x4 ever since, because they are tough, reliable, and great on gas for a 4x4.

Some do some dont, i know alot of people with them around here and if they are well kept up they ride ok. Rust is a major issue though, especially in the rear wheel well area of the frame.

My buddies 4runner that rescued me has a mint frame, i couldnt believe it as the body is fairly rusty but frame is mint. Which was good because it took alot of abuse getting me out of the mud

88 Isuzu Trooper pulled my 02 z71 out of a nasty hole.

Another time a 2000ish 2wd quad cab frontier pulled me out in the same 02 z71. That was an adventure. Lots of backing up and jerking it again and him sliding and bouncing around. But the dude wouldn't give up.

Re: Smallest vehicle you have been saved by?

Most of my wiser moments getting stuck I've had another full size to bail my tail out. I have been yanked out of a 4ft snowdrift by a Jeep Grand Cherokee (ZJ I think) after a blizzard a couple years back. It was at my sister's house and I was trying to bust the drift with my K5 and after a couple of passes I got stuck. The bro-in-law took one snatch with the strap to pull me off the drift I got stuck on. He tried tried to rub it in but I turned it on him that if it wasn't for me busting through his heep wasn't getting within 500ft of his own house let alone pull me out where I got stuck.
