urgent!

I'm on my way up north and my truck bogged down and stalled on the interstate. Caused and awesome scene and now I'm on the side of the road with my truck started but heavily bogged down like its suddenly running really rich. Any quick fixes I can do while being an hour and a half from home!? Its an 86 chevy c10 with a 305 and stock carb. I can rev it and then when it comes down in rpms it seems like its about to stall.

Re: urgent!

Did the distributor slip so your timing is off?
Choke getting stuck on?

Re: urgent!

Stuck float?
Bit of crap blocking the needle open?

Tap the carb with a screwdriver handle.

Re: urgent!

Look down the carb and see if there is gas dripping inside it. There could be something stuck in the needle and seat causing it to flood. I had one do that before. I did not have any tools but a few good raps on the carb around where the float it fixed it . It cleared the trash from the needle and seat and ran fine until I pulled it and rebuilt the carb.

If it has an EGR valve and it sticks open it will do the same thing you describe also.
