Power steering help
I changed out a growling powersteering box on my 1972 C-10 i went with a 1977 used box that seemed in good shape, at the same time i instaled a new pump from NAPA and fit it in to my Reservoir. Now the steering is a little to free. What i mean is its a little to easy to turn? I have a Finished 1971 Short wide. That has perfect feeling steering but it came that way when i bought it. What should i change to get the steering more firm. The box i installed is Quiet and tite and so is the pump. Thanks for any help you can give.

Maybe the later model box has a quicker ratio?

These types of steering gearboxes usually feel that way. Maybe your old one was too tight and your other truck has all tighter front end components.
I would start by making sure the gearbox is adjusted properly and that tierod ends, drag link, pitman arm and ball joints are in good shape. |

All of the Steering stuff is new. The truck steers Great its just that the power steering is to easy. Yes 1 finger easy. My other truck has a much firmer steering and I like it a lot better. It is the Quick ratio box now. But my other truck has that also. Any body ever try a Steering control valve? I bought one from Brothers. Its made by Heidts Rod shop and looks like it could work. but i was thinking it might be easier to change to a diffrent pump?

Here is a picture of the 71 i rebuilt in 2009. Can you tell what Steering box and pump it has?
