Manual Choke Info Needed

I'm putting a manual choke in my '71 C/30 tow truck. I'm hoping someone could give me a picture of where the choke comes through the firewall on a post-68* truck with manual choke so I can drill the whole as close to where the factory did. Thanks in advance

*67/68 location would be just as good. Maybe they're the same place?

Re: Manual Choke Info Needed

i got a gauge cluster out of a 72 c50 and put it in my 72 k20 and it has a fact location for a manual choke under the wiper switch. and there is a hole in the dash when you remove the gauge panel that i suppose was is there due to intercangability.

Re: Manual Choke Info Needed

Thanks you all. That picture with the holes labeled would be one I'd save. Only trucks with manual choke will have the hole. Pondscum, yes there is a place on every dash to the right side of the cluster for choke and/or throttle. I measured from the center of the wiper switch hole to find the center of the lower hole and drilled out a 1" hole in the cluster. I have the cable installed and now need to drill a hole through the firewall for the cable to pass through to the carb on the right side. I guess I could figure a good line to follow and just drill a hole where it seems best, but I'd rather put the hole as close as possible to the factory as I can so it looks original.

Tim here's a pic of my 68. Only I can't remember if that's the choke cable or speedo cable. Maybe this pic will jog somebody else's memory.

On my 68 it's nearly directly in front of the knob.I realize that you're looking for later model though.Maybe the firewall hole is in the same spot?

Found another pic. It's the choke cable you can see it in this pic when you enlarge it.

Re: Manual Choke Info Needed

Fishingred, thanks for that picture. When you showed the first picture it made me wonder if you had a 6cyl. I think they run a different route than a V8. I realize now I should have added that I need the location for a V8.

On a 67/68 a truck came with manual choke unless the SPID shows the auto choke option.

I'm willing to bet they're in the same place. The holes in the dash are about 2 5/16" different vertically. It wouldn't make any difference.

I figure a V8 choke cable would have come though in the recess behind the motor to cross over to the passenger side.

My truck has an Edelbrock spread-bore intake & Quadrajet. The intake has no well for choke. And,I just kinda like the added mechanical feature in such a truck.

Just in case they're in the same location, here's a pic of the cable location for my 68 GMC that I found this morning.

I was wondering the same thing about the 6cyl vs 8cyl after Panel said his came out directly in front of the knob.

Re: Manual Choke Info Needed

Yeah,I'm sure now that V8s and I6s had different routing. Makes sense since the cable goes to opposite sides of the engine. I'd still like to see a picture of a V8 choke cable coming through the firewall.

As you can see, they both come through the same spot.
