350 swap

I have been looking for a 350 to swap into my 69 stepside that had a I6. Found a 350 w/ 700R out of a 93 Blazer. What is involved with swapping a early 90's 350 so I can use it w/ out a computer. Want to put a HEI dist and intake and carb on it. Is the 700R long shaft a computer controlled trans. Also there is a 84 350 that is available w/ a 4 speed auto. Not a 700R. 84 would not be computer controlled, Right? Trans might be a 200R? Not sure. Just want a 350 runner to get me through till I can afford a proper 350 to do it justice.

Re: 350 swap

You can change the intake out on the 93 350 to remove the tbi and put on a 4bbl. Also you can replace the tbi dist with a regular hei and then your ready to run. Not all 93 350 tbi motor have the fuel pump mounting hole so look carefully to make sure ,of course it would be easy to run a small electric pump keep in mind if you go to an Edelbrock carb[don't go over 650for a 350] that the pump may need to be regulated to 4-6 psi so not to overwhelm the needle and seat and cause a lot of trouble. If the motor does have the mount make sure before installing a pump to put in a pump rod as the tbi motor would not have one. It would make a pretty decent motor keep in mind the two middle intake bolts are on a different angle than the 86 and earlier motors. You can either buy an intake for the "centerbolt " heads or use some kit to make the older manifold work on the newer heads. Don't let that stop you from the 93 engine thse changes are very minor to say the least. Now on the trans that is another story. The 93 model year was the 1st for the 4L60E trans or some variant of. The 700 r4 was controlled by a TV cable to determine pressure for upand downshiftswereas the 4l is computer controlled and is expensive to get to work in a noncomputer controlled truck.

Re: 350 swap

To do it correctly you will need some V8 engine stands and you will move the enine placement forward along with the automatic trans x member and of course you will need to change your driveshaft. Try to get the drive shaft yoke with the deal also as it tends to be pricey.

Re: 350 swap

Here is some more info. I took a 350 10-20 block and had a set of 193 tbi heads that I bolted on. it was an easy as pie set-up. I got a edelbrock intake for the "centerbolt" heads that was "canted". Bolted right up. Put a edelbrock 500 cfm carb on it and it fired right up when it got fuel.

Intake was 120 used and I traded for the carb. Here is a pic with the old carb on it. I can tell you from experience. Alot of people will say there is better choices in the heads. Its true.. But if you use what u got and dont dump alot of greenbacks into it they will still make good low end torque and HP. If you are going for a high lift cam you will have to have the Valve guides machined and different seals and springs and clips put in. I believe its above .480 lift. I said I believe...not remembering this early am...

Anyways, according to the engine shop were making 400HP mabee more. All of it will be below 55000rpm. Nothing here is high rev stuff. 5500rpm is top end. Heads are done the intake is done and the cam we got in it is done. Its not designed to go above 5500rpm.

Not trying to get a debate going. I used what i could find cheap, trade for or was given.

Intake is a Edelbrock #2104

Hope this helps. It can be done. And i am happy with how it has acted so far.
