How in the heck does the ignition switch bezel come off?

The key in my 67 will not stay straight up in the 12oclock posistion when the truck is off.You can turn the key and i guess the whole switch is moving.I tried to tighten the bezel with some channel locks with no luck.I thought i would then unscrew it and look at it futher.I can not get the bezel to come off of switch. What is the secret to getting it off.I see a bezel and a spacer in a parts catalog.Where does the spacer go and could mine be missing it keeping the bezel from tightening all the way against dash? Please help i am very chapped at this thing.

67's and some 68's don't have an accessory position. Just put the key in the ignition and "gently" turn it as far to the left as it will go. Insert a straightened paper clip in the hole (the large ones work best) and push the release pin down (go easy here, it doesn't take much pressure at all) and turn the cylinder to the left a little more. As you turn the cylinder you have to remove the paper clip or it will bind in the hole. The cylinder should pull out. You should not have to force anything.

"should" is the key word in "The cylinder should pull out".
No one mentioned the key cylinder/tumbler has to come out before the bezel will unscrew all the way off.
Don't worry if the key cylinder doesn't come right out following these instructions. When you are sweating and cursing after 15 minutes of twisting and wiggling the key and paperclip in every imaginable combination of positions and turns, you're almost there.
When it does finally come off, the hard part is done. The cylinder slides right back in easily with no paperclip tricks needed.
Good luck.

Re: How in the heck does the ignition switch bezel come off?

The ideal is to insert the paper clip so that the key and lock cylinder comes completely out then the chrome bezel will screw off the spacer is between the back side of the dash and your ign. switch. No one reproduces the spacer for a 67 so if you need one you will have to find it used. Hope this helps
