Re: average build time? im stressed out

Well since I had to get rid of all my trucks last year, I finally got another project or a few this past month lol I've been away for work a fair bit this past month though, so my project which I wanted done in 2 months has fallen behind, so now I've got 3wks to complete it I've only got about 10hrs of time in it so far and that's just tear down time. I tore apart my '49 (the complete cab and frontend are just sitting here now) and '76 motorhome down to the chassis and cab so far. I have to finish preppin' the '76 chassis and clean up the engine/tranny then put the '49 frontend and cab on it.

I also have to get the semi truck rims setup, adapters for them, lowering spindles or coils and get the suspension all figured out for the rear. Once the body is on then I've got to build a custom flat deck for it and get it all inspected and insured. I'll probably be out of town some more but even if I just get the '49 body on the '76 chassis and running/driving I can do the suspension/wheels and flatdeck after that...no big deal. I just want to get it done by April 14th as that's my gramps 80th birthday and who knows how many more years he has. So I've set a dead line for myself and when it comes near and I'm not done there'll be a lot of sleepless nights.

I'd say for most people the average build is 3-6years because family, work, $ all play a part in it and knowledge is a key factor in how long this take for you. I think the quickest any of my buddies have built a vehicles from ground up in 2wks and that's working every day long hours on a custom trucks, not stock. The stock stuff can take a weekend to put back together with a couple guys. This build I got lucky as it's pretty much rust free so I'm not stripping the body down, just moving it from one chassis to another and putting the truck back together and building some custom stuff. If it were a tear down and metal work build though, I'd probably give myself 3-6months for it...it can't be any long than that. If my '55 Chevy SWB doesn't sell then I'll start building that for the gf and it'll be a longer build than this one.
