How big of tires can I put on a 04 1/2 4x4

I'm looking at a 04 GMC SLE ext cab Z71 4x4 and it sits low to me, if I buy it was wondering how much bigger of tire I can put on it with out rubbing? I'll know what size tires are on it tonight after I look at it.
Thanks for any help, Randy

Randy,

You can go with a 285, but you'll need to tighten the torsion bars to raise the front end for clearance.

Re: How big of tires can I put on a 04 1/2 4x4

Randy, thought you wanted a Duramax.

I had 285 75 18's on a 2005 2500hd with the t bars cranked and front inner fender plastic trimmed a tab. This was on an HD which also has a 2 or so inch body lift naturally (since the HD frame is 2 or so inches taller), which is also probably why this 1/2 ton now seems low to you. Get a Dmax or 8.1 2500hd and problem solved and enough capacity to haul two parts trucks at a time.

Re: How big of tires can I put on a 04 1/2 4x4

My buddy is running 305/70/16 buckshots on stock wheels with t bars maxed. Close, but no rub.

On my old 2000 model I was running 285/75/16 hercules trail diggers on stock wheels with bars cranked.

Re: How big of tires can I put on a 04 1/2 4x4

To be honest, a half ton with stuffed tires wont get the best mpg, my old truck got 10 and my buddies gets 9, but he's on 35s now with just a body lift.

I hear ya, we got 11.5 going to seattle with empty 3000lb trailer and 7.5 to 9 coming home with an additional 8000 lbs. They say the 8.1 gets same empty as 6.0 and better loaded than a 6.0 and I believe it. You also have the 5 or 6spd auto allison thats part of the reason. My 5.3 1/2 ton z71 only got 15 empty but it had 4.10's and only 265/75/16's. For my 6.0 now, I am going to get the blackbear custom tune, hopefully good for the 1-2 mpg they claim. I'll let you know how it works out.
