Which firewall brake bracket to use?

I've only found the ones made by CPP, and their site is confusing to say the least.

Can anyone recommend a brake pedal, booster bracket for the firewall?

Thanks

That would be helpful, wouldn't it?

Re: Which firewall brake bracket to use?

Personally unless the truck has had a frame swap I wouldn't run another firewall mounted booster in one. Although they work great mounted on the firewall they are one big ugly zit hanging right there on the firewall for everyone to see when the hood is open. On some V8 installations there becomes a clearance issue between the left valve cover and the booster.

I'd look for a small diameter booster if I did hang it on the firewall and I'd cut a piece of 1/8 or 3/16 steel plate to go inside the firewall to spread the pressure from pushing the pedal in out further.

Re: Which firewall brake bracket to use?

Sometimes the ones under the floor create clearance issues with exhaust and such, and are harder to service. I like them on the firewall for ease, but mine is not going to be a show truck. That being said I looked at the CPP unit and built one myself based on careful measurements and pictures. I had a booster from a 97 TA lying around and used it but you can get tiny ones from the junkyard (look at imports!) or new ones from street rod parts suppliers for cheap. Just be mindfull of what brakes you have. Try not to use a master cylinder for 4 wheel discs if you have drums on the rear or vice versa. If you don't weld, the CPP may be the only choice.

Re: Which firewall brake bracket to use?

I am doing a frame swap with a 69 c-10 frame, and my exhaust is already run, so frame mounted is out.

I'm still considering under the dash, but price and routing brake lines in/out of the cab is keeping me away.

This truck will be a driver, so shiny things be damned. For time's sake, I'd prefer to buy something over building.

Re: Which firewall brake bracket to use?

I purchased my firewall brake mount bracket & booster/master/prop from POL,
for 55-59, its still getting shipped atm so I don't have it in hand. Cpp had them on back order with no eta. I'm not sure if they come from the same manufacturer??

I have one from CPP. I wanted it cause it will let you reuse the stock E-brake handle. This is also for the 55-59. You may want to get the catalog or call them

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Re: Which firewall brake bracket to use?

OK, frame swap, that solves that issue, it has to be on the firewall.

I'd spend the money and go with something like the one the guys showed in either post 7 or 8. You can modify one out of a doner rig but it may take more than a little bit of fitting and fussing to get it to work right.

I can't remember what I used when I had the subframe under the 48 but I do remember that I spend most of a Saturday fitting and modifying the bracket that went under the dash and it didn't much resemble what it started out when I was done.

I'm counting on the POL kit to also have the E-brake mount attachment , there was not much of a description on the web page & sales person wasn't sure either, its hard to tell by the picture apart from the cad coating but I'm hoping its the same unit??

Ok that answers that question, different frame.

The Mustang II's had a small diameter booster that wouldn't take up a lot of room but there should be a lot of others too.

Any pictures of what these look like once mounted? Under hood and under dash?

Re: Which firewall brake bracket to use?

I made mine out of a 1970 buick. It ties the pedals dash steering drop and fire wall together. ialso made it so I can use just the brake or both pedals.

Here is mine, fitted up well, but booster studs are barely long enough for the pedal box to bolt up to.

Re: Which firewall brake bracket to use?

I don't have an upclose picture of one mounted in my 51 but the other posts show how they fit. They are easy to install with just drilling out the firewall and then mount to the dash inside.
