Two more weeks until 5/7 drop but opinions wanted.

Hello everyone, Like the title says I have about two more weeks before i take my truck to a good friend and square fans house that is going to help me lower my truck with a belltech 5/7 kit. My questions or concerns is its going on an 82 lwb has anyone have any pics of this and have rub complaints when driving over railroad tracks and or massive parking bumps? Thanks for all your input guys.

What tire and wheel sizes are on your truck, it does make a diference with that much drop?

they are 255 70-15/s on a 15x8 wheel not sure the bs on the rear. But, I also bought some 15x10's with 4.5 inch bs and I know im going to have to have the rear fender lips trimmed when im ready to put them on. im afraid tho im going to be draggin my frame accross the speed bumps and rail road crossings.

im about there adn i have 255/70/15's. i rub in the front adn i drag headers. beltechs hopefully have a stiffer rate then stock coils. 3/4 or 1 ton coils with one cut may be better

Re: Two more weeks until 5/7 drop but opinions wanted.

With those tires on the front on 8in you will probably rub the top of the tires on the underside of the wheel wells with a 5in drop, you may want to get some 245/60/15s or 255/60/15s. (I would prefer a 245/60/15)

what tire are you going to put on the 10in wheels on the rear?

I havent thought about that but most likly something that is going to not rub when all i am going to want to do is trim off the inner fender lip. Cory I plan on keeping my manifolds on, but where else in the front are you rubbing? Im even seriously thinking about removing the front inner fenders is there anything unsafe about driving without them.

You dont want to remove the inner fenders, its going to throw all the road grime all over your motor. Your realy going to be close to rubbing with a 7in drop and 10in/4.5inbs rims.

Ok then Ill just run a smaller tire on the front and leave the fenders in.
What area would be rubbing in the rear tho?

The fender lip to the sidewall of the tire.

Why do you think you need HD coils?

No guarantee that you still won't rub if running too tall of a tire. A 255-70-15 = 29" tall. My guess is you will rub even w/HD coils. A 225-70-15 will allow more clearance @ 27.5" tall....

Lets see a side pic. There's a diff between the starting height of a C20/30 vs a C10.

My 74 was dropped approx 6/8 & I couldn't drive the truck w/255-40-20's (28" tall) w/o the tires constantly buzzing the top of the inner fenderwells. This is the exact reason I installed Slosh Tubs into my dually project as I wasnt to run 29" or so tires @ the minimum.

He is now gonna be running 245/60's in the front and 255/70's in the rear with 15x8.5 slots all the way around. He is installing "Clifford's" old drop and wheel/tire combo so I know they will work together.

And.... They'll work w/a 6/8-ish drop so a 5/7 allows greater clearance .

Re: Two more weeks until 5/7 drop but opinions wanted.

Well that was mainly why I started this thread was not so much tire rub but where in the frame is it rubbing or parts? I have to take in account on a lwb that having a longer wheelbase gives me a much bigger chance to bottom it out.

Re: Two more weeks until 5/7 drop but opinions wanted.

the canadian whe assembled ym frame was drunk because my suspension cross member is not centered. when i turn, my left tire can catch teh fender pretty bad and ding it up, it rusted so i went to town on it wil the ol' ball peen. my cross member is ofset to the left quite a bit, maybe 1/4" or more. not too uncommen with these truck i guess. so watch out for that when it is lowered
