what are you guys using for brake system

looking for what everyone is running for brake cylinders in their trucks. the reason i ask is i have the original brake cylinder from my 49 2.5 ton chevy. it had the standard duals with narrow 20" rims. i changed my axles and now have 4x4 axles under with drums in the rear and disc in the front. would my original brake cylinder be enough for my new setup. what do you guys suggest. and im not really looking to put a booster or anything in the firewall

Re: what are you guys using for brake system

At minimum you will need a dual MC and proportioning valve for the disc/drum setup, your original is not set up with the right valving and volume to match the newer stuff. Ideally it would be the same MC and valve from the axle donor vehicle with same line sizes to the wheels. In 4wd the MC is usually high enough above the wheel cylinder and calipers that check valves are not required. I used 74 K10 axles, mc and prop. valve on mine. I added a 9" hotrod vacuum booster to the mix. Details are in my thread towards the front, it was one of the first things I posted about. You can buy adapters from aftermarket places, or make one like I did. AD will be a little different than TF.

Re: what are you guys using for brake system

I'd run the MC from the truck that donated the axles... If you are worried about space under the floor board, run a hydro-boost from a 1 ton chevy (or chevy astro van). I have the Astro van setup (complete system, master/hydroboost/combination valve) on my 71 Scout crawler with 1 ton axles, and it works VERY well. Cost me around $100 from the JY.
