hood bolt sizes?

Hi
Have a messed up setup here on a 51 3100. Would anyone know the size of bolts needed for hood where it connects to hood? One bolt goes on the spring and two go on the other part.. but what size bolts? i dont want to spend $15 on an ebay kit that may or may not work. Can I get them at a local store like auto or hardware?

thanks
kevin

Re: hood bolt sizes?

They are short shouldered bolts of two different sizes. You won't find them at a hardware store.

He's right. Use Classic parts 38-525 for $8.95.

Yep, hardware store bolts won't work worth a hoot as the hood will never close right. Been there done that and it didn't work.

http://www.classicparts.com/1947-54-.../#.UpknQtJDvHQ is the link. Fair price and excellent service.

The photo of the bolts will show you why you need the special bolts.

Re: hood bolt sizes?

Today I saw shoulder bolts in the metal bins at Lowes, but at $1.82 each seemed pricey. Mine cleaned up great with a wire wheel so new were not needed.

Re: hood bolt sizes?

Just order the correct bolts and you will have it fit right in short order.

I think the threads are 3/8 sae =fine thread in the hood and 5/16 sae on the bolts on the spring brackets. You will want to run a tap through the threads in the bolt holes in the hood after you get your new bolts.
