I also need a measurement

I'll have to get actual meassurements but for now, does these sound right on a 53 back short bed? Bed side, 79 3/4, length, 23 including the 45 degree bend at the top. In other words, the bed sides I'm building would be 23 in. wide before I done the brake at the top. I'm going to use 19 gauge, with a 1 1/4 tube. If these measurements are close I can do it out of 1 sheet.

I don't know if this is what you're looking for, but there may be something on this page or on one of the following pages that could help.

Re: I also need a measurement

That helps, I'm going to look at a buddies truck for exact measurements, I found a guy with a shear and metal brake and I just needed a rough idea of length and width. All I have to buy is 1 sheet of steel and get some prices off him for the work.

Re: I also need a measurement

Your measurements sound right. I used 16 gauge for my box sides...

Re: I also need a measurement

Mar-K bed sides are 16 gauge. They didn't show the exact measurements that I could find on there site. Someone has those measurements on the net though.

Re: I also need a measurement

I seen them somewhere too, but like everything else, I forgot where. The guy's break turned out to be to short anyway, on the hunt for 1 long enough. If nothing else, may have to save up for a Mark K bed. At least he has free shipping if you spend a $1000. See what happens.

Re: I also need a measurement

I dug one of my bedsides out when I was out moving firewood around.
Here is the link to the photobucket album with all of the measurements I took.
http://s173.photobucket.com/user/mr4...?sort=2&page=1

Length:

Height from lip on bottom to bend for top angle:

Distance from angle that sets on top of bed wood to the bend at the top.

That is this measurment here:

width of the angled piece at the top.:

Custom trick that flat didn't work:

Diameter of roll at the edge of the angle at the top. I filled them with freeze plugs years ago and that is why they are plugged.

Side note and you can kind of see it in the photo of the hacked stake pocket post there is a 1/2 inch lip bent on the bottom of the bed side that is bent to the inside. That is to stiffen the side. The side also is trimmed for clearance over the axle area and is trimmed up to about 1 inch below the angle piece so there is clearance for the bed wood.

I hope that helps.
