Re: 1980 swb w/ 30,000 miles Whats it Worth?

If you have your heart set on a cherry square, I would buy a rust free one from the southwest with some dings and dents, and not be concerned about mileage. You can get these for $3K out here, then spend another $3K to restore the drive train and other parts.

Modifications like headers, carburetor, etc. actually reduce the value of a "classic" vehicle. However, you can find good "correct" stock used parts to restore it to factory condition.

$9K goes about halfway toward a new work truck Silverado and you have no worries for 3 years.

You can expect that there will be repairs in a 33 year old truck, regardless of how it looks. Things just plain wear out after that long.

^^^^^ Your best friend if you don't like the 3 I posted. All 3 of the ones I posted are within 200mi of you add time an gas still less than what that other truck was. patience Is a good thing when looking for these trucks. Also I cant quite tell if you're getting upset because the few that said that truck was to much or look around but if you already have your mind made up don't get upset when you ask what people think and it don't agree with what you want to hear. Not trying to be rude just trying to help, happy hunting.

none of those are a pre 81 besides one and it wasnt half as good of looking truck though. your talking a square light 80 prob the rarest of the squares in black with red int the most sought after combo in a short bed and 2wd.

If you like the truck...just buy it.

You can look all over the country but I doubt you will find a better value.

And that truck on Ebay would make between 7500.00 and 10,000.00

If you are not going to buy it let the other forum members know where it is

Somebody will grab it....
We'll I am setting at home watching the ice storm or I would be up there talking to the guy.

I will let you know it is in Western Kentucky. I will let you know the exact location if I can't make a deal on it.

Man the truck looks real clean to me other than a little wear. If you like the truck and you feel that it's worth what the owner is asking I say buy it. I have bought things in the past and people have told me that I have over paid but it was worth the money I gave in my opinion. What's worth 5,000 to one man may be worth 7,000 to the next! Just my 2 cents

If you take good care of a new truck it will last a long time with minimal repairs. The truck in question here will also need maintenance parts, regardless of how nice it looks. As far as expensive parts for a new truck, you can get good prices at the OEM websites like oewarehouse.com, oehq.com, autopartstomorrow.com. If the truck in question is to be a daily driver with significant miles per year, then the improved fuel economy will help defray the additional purchase price on a new truck. If you can wait a year or two, the 2014 models of any of the big three 1/2 ton trucks will get 18/25 mpg - that is a whole new world for daily driver pickups - and why they are selling like hotcakes.

Not trying to start an argument, just offering my opinions having owned a few old squares and quite a few new trucks.

I always have had an old square as a second vehicle to use as a dump truck, Home Depot runs, going to the "sanitary landfill", etc. If I had one as an investment to keep stored in a garage my perspective would change.
There are hundreds of thousands (?) of these trucks still on the road, so rarity will not appreciably increase the value any time soon. Just my $.02.

I do second claytona. If you like it and want it, balls to the wall. Still think it's a bit much, but i bought a stet of clapped out rusted out bottom doors for 100 bucks just to get the mirror mounting locations, only to drill out the holes in other doors. I like it as i love an 80 front end. It is sharp. Snow sucks up here too :/

Re: 1980 swb w/ 30,000 miles Whats it Worth?

I could see that being a 30,000 mile truck...and with a few touch-ups like original engine parts, wheels, etc., it is a $9,000 truck. So at $7,500 I'd buy it. I just sold one at $7,000 that wasn't as nice.

Re: 1980 swb w/ 30,000 miles Whats it Worth?

What happened on this truck? I know a lot of you can't imagine being a 30000 mile truck with aftermarket accessories but I know a TON of new vehicles that the owners have fitted superchargers, headers, larger turbos and even aftermarket tachometers. Why is it not possible this was done on this truck? I know some people that haven't even made it home with their new vehicles before doing mods on them.

Re: 1980 swb w/ 30,000 miles Whats it Worth?

I can imagine it. 15-20 years ago, I would have been guilty of it (I was....). That doesn't make the end product any less of a bummer. When this truck was new, it was just a truck. No one knew what a survivor it was going to be, it was just a truck. I get that. That's also what makes a truly original truck worth that much more.
