vortec 350 top end swap

I've got a vortec 350 top end and almost complete wiring harness in my garage and was thinking about putting it on my 350 in my 78 with a 2 piece rear main block I was wondering if any of you guys might have some tips on the swap I know I'll probably have to run the vortec distributer and timing cover and run o2 sensors but I'm not sure on what all I may be overlooking

You'd likely have to disable much of the knock sensors, and such to run right.

I would use HP tuners they support the Vortec engines, and get a computer out of a Express van with the 047 code I think. It is a LS computer for 350 engines, and has the best tuning options.

The knock sensor should thread into the drain hole on the side of the block that is where its located on my tahoe anyway

Then you should be fine. I never thought of such a swap, and I know a lot of details changed by the time vortec came around.

Just remember to use a cam similar to a fuel injected one as they like high vacuum.

Yes it's doable. However, you may need a tuner to calibrate the ECU program correctly, disable anti-theft, and other items. Look up LT1swap.com

Re: vortec 350 top end swap

Ive got most of the parts to do it laying around and thought it would be different so why not and I have a shop within 15 miles that specializes in ls swaps and gm tunes who I'll probably bug with this swap
