AD & TF "Survivor" Photo Thread

Looking at the poor old GMC AD truck on another thread that had been abandoned to the elements made me think there are some true survivors out there.

I'm talking NOT restorations. I'm talking about trucks that have been regularly drive throughout their lives, repaired, patched, and kept on the road. With as many beautiful frame-off jobs as we have here it'd be nice to remember there are still some oldies-but-goodies out there.

Here's my contribution:

My truck the day I bought her about 3 years ago and now.

Re: AD & TF "Survivor" Photo Thread

My '55 2nd fits right in here. Previous owners kept this short bed small window pickup rolling all these years around So Calif. Someone added a '69 Pontiac engine and Muncie 4speed. Somebody else spray canned it black primer over all the dents and what little rust it had. When I got it, in August of 2013, it ran, and you could drive it, but not very far, as brakes, steering, suspension, and water pump were not good. Engine, tranny, rearend were solid. I spent 3 months working on the truck, doing everything myself. Now it is my daily driver and runs great. before and after pics.

Re: AD & TF "Survivor" Photo Thread

Here's my idea of a true survivor- all original front to rear, top to bottom- original paint, motor, seat, trans, rearend and so on- never dicked with in any way.

Here's another "true suvivor"- all original, top to bottom, stem to stern, inside and out.

Here's our survivor shop truck. 73k on the clock. Sat for a long time, but after a little work it's a runner.

Re: AD & TF "Survivor" Photo Thread

Here's mind just before the tear down. It was on the road until the mid 80s in it's stock condition. I will give it life again but the days of outdated technology are gone for good on this build.

Re: AD & TF "Survivor" Photo Thread

this is truk 12 yrs ago the day i started tearing it apart
25 yrs ago it was my daily driver and work truck for my electrical contracting business
while not a true ''survivor'' it had been modified and painted in the 70s and still looked fairly decent

Re: AD & TF "Survivor" Photo Thread

I'll jump in on this bandwagon.
Here is Hank the day I bought him, 56,000 original miles, had a crack in the block, and was parked for at least 20 years.
Second is what he looks like now.

Re: AD & TF "Survivor" Photo Thread

This is the first pic that I saw of my truck in a CL ad. I'm not sure I'd call it a survivor as it had had an engine change and had been changed to five lug drums. It had been repainted one time, fortunately in the original dark blue.

Same changes as mine had: V8 and five lugs all around. But someone needed to keep her on the road so this was more than likely done as maintenance more than hotrodding. At least that's my point of view.

Re: AD & TF "Survivor" Photo Thread

Here's the one I picked up last week. Engine turns over, I just need to go through a bunch of things before I fire it off. Plans include cancer rust repair and driving hell out of it. Not going to paint or do any cosmetic work, just drive it like it sits.

Re: AD & TF "Survivor" Photo Thread

Mine was a survivor until recently. Cecil was my stepdad's first truck. He did repaint him and put in a radio but other than that he was original until a few months ago. Now not so much, he is under going a S-10 transplant, 350 TPI,700R, and the white paint was stripped and he is now back to Patina and "aged" factory Ocean Green .

Re: AD & TF "Survivor" Photo Thread

We saved this truck from the scrapper. It was an old farm truck and appears very unmolested. My wife and sister-in-law are using it as a photo prop so I'm waiting patiently to get my hands on it.
