Bad brake squeal at slow stop

Hey guys, I've got an all drum 70 and have recently been fighting a bad squeal at a slow rolling stop, such as a stop sign. If I get on the brakes with a good amount of pressure, there is no squeal. This is high pitched. The shoes are new. The squeal seems only to be coming from the front driver side. Thinking they may have glossed over, I buffed them with some 60 grit and blew out the hardware. The drums are not perfect, can feel slight grooves in them. Is turning, or new drums, the answer? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

May have a drum getting thin. Do you have a way to measure them to see if they have been turned past the max diameter?

Re: Bad brake squeal at slow stop

I have this same problem on my 97 ext cab. Pass rear brake. Replaced shoes and drums and still there. Very annoying! I've taken it apart several times and always have more brake dust on that side. I clean it and it stops for 20 mins and comes right back. I don't know what's causing it. And I don't want to keep buying parts and having the same problem.

Re: Bad brake squeal at slow stop

I pulled the drum and had it turned. It had plenty of meat left and turned very nice. The bad squeal is gone. Hopefully it stays that way!
