Bill, I always liked them myself. There was one park alongside Rt 460 in Roanoke a short while back. Not sure if it is still there.

The grille & hood changed but still the same cab in later years. Still tough looking.

Re: Been To Another Show

I always liked Whites, even the newer ones. Once got a chance to drive a late 60's or early 70's White 9000 Single Axle Road Tractor. Had a 220 Cummins with a 10-Speed RR. No Power Steering, but it steered just fine in my opinion.

The thing that puzzled me about Whites though is that the 9000's were the Short Nose and the 4000's were the Long Nose trucks. Someone once explained to me why that was, but right now I can't remember, lol.

Thanks Tim, I really didn't know about the upgrade.

I don't think I ever saw it. I think the guy next to the Routgough Mack dealership on 11 in Cloverdale who sells antique big trucks may have had one there a couple years ago.

A company I worked for back in the stone age had all White 4000's. Just like yours, 220 10spds. The thing I remember about them was the way the door just kinda closed against the cab instead of inside the jam. The doors on those things always rattled. And they were fairly new trucks at that time.

Thanks for posting. I found my favorite, and then I tried to figure out which one it was. You know I love trucks.

Re: Been To Another Show

Was it red? How about that black Bison? It''s too clean to eat off of!! I looked and looked at that thing, inside, under, outside, engine compartment, and I could not tell if it was brand new or restored. I mean for such a modern antique even the wiring harnesses and connectors looked brand new. I talked to the owner a good bit, it is restored (of course). I never asked just what was N.O.S. or not. But he had or has a Chevy dealership in Chesapeake, VA and they sold the big trucks, so could be a ton of N.O.S. Oh, and power is upgraded to a Detroit Series 60

Re: Been To Another Show

You know how I feel about red, but that black Bison did catch my attention. I was trying to figure out if those NOS drip rail moldings you have tucked away would fit it (they won't).

I like all three of those Chevy's, but then the older stuff took me back in time. When I was a kid, my dads partner had an affection for the B model Macks so I was close to them in the sixties. That was in Illinois. Here in Arkansas, the Internationals were more prominent. Nobody around here could afford the other heavy trucks.

Those 3 Chevys parked side by side sure are impressive.

It's nice to see that Bowtie on some large trucks again.

Re: Been To Another Show

I definitely go for the nostalgic old trucks bring. I love them all so really enjoy the whole thing. That green & white Freightliner with the racing mower next to it is probably a '95 or so? Not so antique at this point, but it's cool it was there. The guy is local and so is the company that owns it. It's an everyday working fleet truck the guy gets paid to drive, yet he takes total pride in it, keeps it clean, and brings it to a show. He even paid my buddy to repaint the number on the sleeper. I've always noticed the "H H Omps" trucks on the road and can appreciate them sticking with their traditional fleet paint scheme. I hate seeing that going away. To me it's a sign of how the world has become too focused on the bottom line. In the past company recognition and pride in the fleet was reflected through stand-out paint jobs. You knew who it was coming down the road before you could read the signs. It's an added expense to get trucks done up, but that surely gets diluted out in the million or more miles the truck earns income for company

Re: Been To Another Show

I must be grasping for something to talk about, but, we still run on of the White/GMC/Volvo dump trucks. Man is it ugly, but, you know what, when it dumps a load of dirt it pays the same as one of our pretty trucks. It has a 60 series Detroit but that's another thread.

That K O Towing, W900A Kenworth is one of my favorites. I have one out back I was going to restore, but it keeps getting put on the back burner.

Re: Been To Another Show

That one there was totally cool, like a barn find. I looks plucked right from the past. I love my trucks this way. The look says outdated, yet shows it was a thing of pride in it's day and still doing it. The faded paint adds to it. At some point the shine let go but it just won't stop running. No fickle trend following with this one. It was done to the owner's liking with no need to change a thing

I remember when I was a kid in the '60s when Ford came out with that sportier bodied Falcon they named the Mustang. All the kids knew what those were. I was a total vehicle nut even back then and knew all the trucks and cars. I used to mess with the other kids and say, "Hey, look at that White Mustang!" They'd look all around and say, "Where? I don't see a Mustang". I'd point at the truck in whatever color it was and say, "Right there. That's a White Mustang. Cool truck, ay?" (Was I a little smartass? Nah)
