305E Temp Switch Location for Electric Fan?

Running an electric fan on my truck and previous owner had it controlled solely through a toggle switch in the cab. I would like to incorporate an on/off (180deg.) sensor of some type but am not sure where I can locate it since the 2 ports on the manifold are already taken up by the factory temp sensor and a hose fitting for the heater. Any other options? I have looked into the "probe" style that slide between radiator fins but for some reason I feel as though this wouldn't be near as effective as a sensor with the bulb immersed in the actual coolant.

Any words of wisdom?

Would a typical SBC/BBC thermostat housing with a temp fitting fit a V6?

Do V-6's use a fan shroud or was that removed for "better" cooling.

I thought a thermostat housing that has the NPT on it like this one would work. I know that the Pontiac 400 housing (1975 and above) will fit, but I could not locate one that had the NPT.

I also found this by-pass for 1.5" hose on EBay.

You can put it in the head. If it has a spot for it.

I researched this subject recently and...according to all the experts lol, the best place is in the hot side of the radiator as close to incoming fluid. So if your a cool kid, you weld a bung at said location or you use the drain spigot if that's on the right side or you can use a section of pipe in line with hose. This is a highly debatable subject on line with many different opinions lol. I called all the fan people, deralle and speak and the like and as you guessed got different opinions lol. General consensus is away from engine ambient heat as best as possible and as close to the coolant to be cooled as far away from ambient heat is better. Most new school aluminum radiators have the port on them. Just as a disclaimer I know Jack shi@ and just blindly trust most big name manufactures recommendations. Now google- thermostats temp and fan temp and see just how all over the place it is lol. This forum is much more civilized than others and that's nice. Glad I sold my 5 window coupe lol!

I think I am going to end up going the in-line route. Now I just need to find one that is as simple-looking as possible so it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb on an otherwise OE setup.
