Eaton ho72

I picked this up today. Has 4:10 gears and I think a no spin. I can’t see a center pin, all 4 holes on the carrier have something in them if that makes sense. How can I tell for sure?

Looks like a open diff
.No spins don't have the spider gear that is shown in your photo. Should have numbers on ring gear to tell gear ratio and date code. They don't use center pin but a cross set up on both open and no spin

Thanks. It is 4:10 made in 1970. I tried to get that in photo but it doesn’t show up very well.

Re: Eaton ho72

Next question. Will this center section bolt in to my 52 housing?

Yes the center section it should bolt right in. However the gear ratio does not match the front so you will have issues there. So either regear the front or replace the carrier with the new axle to fix yours keeping your 4.57. Or never shift out of 2wd.

Re: Eaton ho72

I can't answer your question but I have 2 links saved
that are an interesting read.
1st one has info about spider gears.
2nd one has good pictures to show what the Eaton looks like torn apart.

Link 1: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...ding+HO52+HO72

Link 2: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=536119

Hope this helps and in no way am I try to make this about a 14 bolt swap subject.
I want to run my Eaton also.
I have 3 center chunks.
One of them is an early Eaton that have one pinion bearing an a bushing in the rear of the pinion.
The other 2 have pinion bearings in front and the rear.

I know about the ratio mismatch. I’m trying to isolate some noises so I was just going to swap those chunks for a test and not use 4wd. Thanks

.
I’ve read the second one several times and like you said it’s mainly about Eaton vs 14 bolt. I haven’t seen the other thread before I’m going to read through it. Thanks
