Tires

Looking at 255/70/15 tires for my rallies. I see the BFG's and Cooper's as the most mentioned. From people with experience with these tires, is the 50 dollars a tire more for BFG's worth it? I'll be installing them on a 69 LB step side lowered 2.5 inches front (lowering spindles) and 4 inches rear (lowering springs). Truck will be used for home projects and driving around town.

BFG are the highest mileage tires I've even owned, and have owned Coopers. They are worth the slightly extra cost to me.

I've run both BFG TAs and Cooper Cobras and had good wear from both. I opted for Cooper on my rallys for my 68 just for the cost savings.

Thanks for the replys I found a shop that will do all 4 for $640.00, mounted and balanced, so the delta comes down enough to go with the BFG's.

While tire quality should always be the first consideration, nowadays they are only guaranteed for 5 years. I had some Michelins on my commuter car that started to separate. They were just short of 5 years old, so CostCo did a pro-rated warranty on the tread life. I've had the Firestone Trans-Force 16.5" tires on my truck for two years, now. It's more than a little bit disappointing that I'll have maybe 2000 miles on them by the time they are 5 years old and rotten. Since I pull a 26' travel trailer with the truck, I'm certainly not going to chance my and/or other people's lives with old tires. Maybe someone here who drives a lot of miles per year can get a real deal on a set of low mileage tires on 16.5" solid (not split) wheels. Beats just throwing them away three years from now. I'll think about how to structure such a deal. Fact of the matter, I should be looking at the trailer's tires too. Should have bought a tent, instead.
