Welcome to the board! I'm not from Texas. Here in Tucson we have to have them pass an emissions test. Do you? That would be a good start.

We don't have to pass emissions here in Tyler. I don't know if they are doing it in Dallas or not. If you were closer I would take a look at it for you but, I'm about 100 miles away. I imagine there are some fellow members who are in your area that will help you out and look at it for you.

I am in Dallas. Cedar Hill to be exact. I am no pro, but I would be happy to hook up with you and take a look at it. 2 sets of eyes are better than one

Send me a PM with a phone #, and I'll give you a call.

Welcome to the board and good luck with the truck. Make sure the glove box sticker says Cheyenne or SST, special equipment package, or you may be getting a stock truck that someone converted to a cheyenne.

I'm in North Richland Hills. There is also a shop over here in North Richland Hills called JAM automotive. They don't specialize in old trucks, but they are the only mechanics I trust. And they won't bend you over either. I'm usually really busy with work or else I would come by and check it out.
Of course you could always take pictures and post them in this thread.

In the Dallas Ft worth are anything older than 25 years is exempt from emissions testing. Safety inspection only. That is lights, horn, blinkers and such.

As far as what to look out for. Rust, Rust and more Rust. all old trucks tend to get some. but it is very common among the 67-72 models. And usually in the same places. Rockers, cab corners and bottoms of the frt/rear fenders just to start. I will add that I never buy a car or truck without looking under the hood and under the dash. Alot of owners over a period of thirty years do alot of splicing to get things to work or add radios and accessories. A birds nest of wires means that you will have problems down the road. Mechanically, if you see alot of grease build-up on the motor, tranny or anywhere else. that means this thing has been leaking like a spaghetti strainer. And could cause an earlly rebuild if it was run low on fluids. Listen for rod knocks or weird sounds from the drivetrain. I have even gone to the trouble of taking a long broom stick or screw driver and listened to the valve train. I place the stick to my ear and slowly move down the valve cover (top) and see if I hear a knocking that could mean a bad spring or valve train problems. it wouldn't hurt to have a fridge magnet in you pocket. not a heavy strength magnet. Reason for this is if you carefully place it on strategic locations on the body like around the rear taillights, bottoms of the fenders and such. If this weak magnet doesn't stick. that usually means body filler. the more filler, the more it won't attempt to stick. just some things I thought might help out.

Good luck on your purchase.

Yeah, location would be a great help.
So far we got you covered in the north between dallas and forworth (hutch) North/eash fortworth (myself) West and southwest dallas (n737nc).
So as long as you aren't in benbrook or plano you're all set.

truck

thanks everyone for welcoming me.
i thought i put my location in my profile but i didn't and when i went
to update i also change my email address so i had to wait until i got home.

i live in cedar hill, where all the TV towers are located.

the truck i'm interested in is on ebay, here is the link.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...483831848&rd=1

if this truck belongs to anyone on here let me know.

this is the color i want dark green with the green/black houndstooth seats.

since i work in west fort worth and the truck is in aledo, so it's close by. i might go by and look at it. that why i need to know if anybody knows alot about these trucks and can give me a honest opinion. i don't know a lot about these trucks but i need a truck and i said to my self why not get a classic.

thanks,
thomas...
