Whenever someone tells me “I want this!” or “I want that!” (usually a boss or my kids) I tell them:
“People in hell want snow cones”

Re: Old sayings or sayings from old folks
I think it's funny these days to hear the old sayings be misquoted. Like the meaning is lost, just repeating what they thought was said or remembered wrong. I hear it all the time. The weather lady will use cliches wrong often. My son's friend was over and our supper was ready to eat so I asked him if he'd like to have some. He answered "I'm a pig in sh!+" . I asked him to go out and wash up before coming in my house (kidding) I guess he forgot the "happier than a..." part

Re: Old sayings or sayings from old folks
Yeah, smart man. I think she started a new one! Usually when someone says one wrong it takes a second to hit me it was said wrong. Then I think about what they actually said would mean. Pretty funny most of the time. I like to twist around "What on God's green earth?" and "What in the hell?" with "What in God's green hell?" Nothing meant by it. Just twisting things around
How about some wise farmer sayings? "Fences should be horse high, bull strong, and pig tight" "Don't count your chickens before they hatch" "Don't put all your eggs in one basket" "Never look a gift horse in the mouth" "Make hay while the sun shines"

Re: Old sayings or sayings from old folks
Here’s a few more special-k.
Mess with the bull and your gonna get the horn. He could talk the hind leg off a donkey. Happy as a fox in a henhouse. As worthless as tits on a boar hog. Jumpier than a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs. Cows may come and cows may go but the bull in this place goes on forever |

Re: Old sayings or sayings from old folks
“It’s time to hit the hay”
“The hay is in the barn” runners stole that one from a football coach. “Couldn’t hit the broadside of a barn” Has this one been mentioned? “Your barn door is open” “I’m in the short rows” I have thought about most of these in years.

Re: Old sayings or sayings from old folks
I just remembered some I use
"The proof is in the pudding" I use this a lot "Make hay while the sun shines" Pretty often but usually just say, "Gotta make hay" I don't use it, but "The apple doesn't fall far from the tree"

Re: Old sayings or sayings from old folks
Could he just ask, "What do you mean"?
Her version doesn't come close to what the proper way means. I guess "any way you slice it" means about the same thing. "I wouldn't know him from Adam" "Bottom of the totem pole" "Too many chiefs, not enough Indians"
