65 rear suspension

Ok I may be getting a 65 so my question is about the rear end will the 73-87 rear work width wise.

Re: 65 rear suspension

The newer axles are wider by 1". Also the 65, if a Chevy is trailing arm rear suspension. The square bodies are leaf spring. So you would need to move the spring perches. And this is if we are talking about a 1/2 ton.

Re: 65 rear suspension

I used a square body rear under my fleetside. It's only 3/4" wider each side and actually centered my wheels better. You have to swap the perches and you can get over the lack of panhard attachmnet by using an aftermarket panhard that goes down to the perch.

Re: 65 rear suspension

One thing to remember is that the 12 bolt in the 65 is the same as a 12 bolt from a 73 and up and I feel like they are stronger than the 10 bolt from that era.
