Re: 496 to be DYNO'D!

Steve, Interesting you tune them that lean. For all the LS stuff I tune, I tend to set it about 12.8-12.9.. So to me, based on my time spent on the dyno with a bunch of LS stuff, the tune looks pretty good, the top end of the rom range might be a little rich, but not bad.. All depends on what the combo wants right?

Yes I have, and we do.. LOL again just asking. I have been doing this stuff for twenty years now, we have a very good handle on it. But only looking at afr is just the starting point a 4 gas will tell you much more. Opens up many more doors for tuning. We have to be careful not to run them too rich as you will end up building carbon and that in the long run will led to other issues as we all know.

My Stroker LS ran the best at 13.2 under that the power fell off by a large amount. I could have run it leaner and it was making more power ( we did try several ranges,.. but in the dunes the heat from the leaner afr would ramp up my coolant temp. Different beast of course.. And yes what the engine wants is how it should be tuned, there is no "written in stone" afr range .

The engine showed up on Wednesday just as I had expected. Have been under the weather lately, so haven't even uncrated it... Here's a couple pics though. Looks friggin awesome!

Re: 496 to be DYNO'D!

Smart man on the 12 bolt at least, what trans are you running, stall also. That 496 should really rip, would like to hear it running in the truck, should be wicked. I imagine 3" exhaust for sure?

Re: 496 to be DYNO'D!

Tci super street fighter, ATI 3200 stall, 2" primaries with 3.5" collectors. Will be all 3" stainless exhaust. Just need some time off work to get all this stuff going on...

Re: 496 to be DYNO'D!

Nice stall, should kick a$$ pretty nice, your right about finding time, went to work on mine tonight but ended up pulling neighbors 94GM sterring column and rebuilding it but dark now so putting it back in tomorrow then get back to my bodywork again. Bodywork is a long road.

Re: 496 to be DYNO'D!

I'll start a build thread here someday... But the story of this truck is that my Grandfather bought it new in 82.. Around 1990 it became my Grandma's truck for camping with me and my brothers. Here's a pic of it in 1997. When I bought it in 2002 it still looked like this!

The red chevelle should go high 20's low 30's when ironed out.

I was also at this test session and both of these cars , dispite chassis adjustment being off , made nice passes . Thinking the Camaro was on a 275 DR .
