496

AFR 265's

.608E
RPM Air Gap
850 Holley

Closest guess wins a virtual high five!

910
This at 700hp, (not saying it's not) but I must have really been low balled on my 496, at 630HP. my set-up:
Holley 850 DP 4150
10.7 CR
RPM Air Gap
Performer RPM oval heads
2 inch primaries headers
Roller rockrs/cam with a 304HR comp cams
looser bearings

Your AFR heads flow a bit better, would it make that much of a difference? eventhough I have more lift I still don't flow quite as good.

Theres alot more to consider than just air flow, the AFR 265 does demoralize the RPM heads, esspecially when your only lifting the valve .570. This engine will peak @ 6400 RPM when its all said and done, thats something else to consider, I have not had much luck with the comp hyd roller lobes, remember Ive been developing these exact same engines for 7 years now. I dont think you got hosed, I just know what goes into my engine, and its a little more than an average rebuild. At this point Jarred I think I will ask Harold Bettes to come down and supervise these final tests and write a report on this engine and how it was tested. So stay tuned and lets see what we end up with.

Re: 496 to be DYNO'D!

Mark,

I don't see more than one guy really calling you out on your numbers. With that, you need to have Harold Bettes come down and verif everything?

If you took my post as doubting your abilities, then you need to go back and read it again. I was forming my guess based on the info provided and the tools I had. Don't let my love for the LS based motors rain on your parade, there is still a market for big blocks, just not in my stuff.

You seem a little quick to get defensive, but hey, I can understand taking things personal at times.

No, it not a problem, I get this all the time, I dont mind it, the thing with me is, I have customers at the track that do all my speaking for me, the proofs in the performance, and I got a lot more examples dont change, your good with me Harold comes down almost everyday anyway. 10.8 COMP 496 gm oval ports 9.56 @ 3615-3630 first full pass 32 dgrees timing, stay tuned.

Re: 496 to be DYNO'D!

Just an FYI.

On the.9.56 pass and the pass with the maroon camaro with the 468. I was there for both of those passes as we rented the track. None of this is bull****.
The 9.56 was off the trailer and the 3rd pass ever on the motor. He also pedal'd that pass because the wheelie went a little higher than he wanted.
Garrets 468 is a bad little mofo!
The red chevelle should go high 20's low 30's when ironed out.

I was also at this test session and both of these cars , dispite chassis adjustment being off , made nice passes . Thinking the Camaro was on a 275 DR .

Patiently waiting to see how far off performance trends was with my guess work. By the sound of it, quite a bit.

Re: 496 to be DYNO'D!

I dyno here but it is a rear wheel dyno for harleys. I have a question on the AFR that is showing on the sheet. Is there a reason that its running so rich?? Or was that where they set it as it made the most power there, or ran cooler, Most will run in the 13.0 range to 13.5 and run cool to make the best power.. Not stirring the pot only asking. To me that seems too rich.
