Re: slamburban

got it back from the electricial shop today.finally got the autometer gauges back in after taking a tablespoon of sand out of each one.word to the wise never sandblast the inside of your truck with the gauges in.no matter how much you tape them up, sand always finds a way in.started fab on the the rear bumper brackets and a skid plate for the underside because i dont want the oil pan to be the lowest point on the frame.

Re: slamburban

installed the fiberglass rear filler panel and bumper. had to use rear truck brackets and straighten then out a bit because of the custom back half of the frame, but they worked really good. also installed some mirrors i got off of ebay.

Re: slamburban

the guages are autometer 1204 designer black II series.i got them from chevs of the 40s. they are pretty expensive at $650 for both, but they come with everything you need.the only thing is, they are 5 inch guages and i think the opening in the factory dash are 5 1/4 or 5 1/2 inches. so i had to buy 2 factory chrome guage bezels at $15 each to put in the holes, then the guages went right in.

Re: slamburban

Thanks! I sure wish autometer made the old tyme street rod ones in black. Those look pretty good tho, just a little too modern for my build.

Re: slamburban

chizzler, the rear splash guard is fiberglass with 4 fiberglass bracket. i bought it off ebay about two years ago for $100. he no longer sells on ebay and i cant remember the name of the company that sell them.the only reproduction that are availiable are fiberglass. i will look through my paper work tomorrow to see if i can find the receipt and get back to you. my buddy has three original ones.i will see if i can get one from him.

Re: slamburban

let me know if jim carter still sell the rear valance. if not i can ask the guy that makes them. he sells them for a bit little more money. but they are just as nice. the only thing is. they do come with bracket just like the original, but are they are made of fiberglass also. the valance isnt drlled for them. but i didnt use the brackets anyway.i really like the smooth look. so i just screwed it into the body with self tapping screws.

Re: slamburban

i finally took the maiden voyage in suburban. i took my wife and son for about a 2 hour drive around town and it ran perfect. the only problem i had so far is one of my headlights went out, but the halo lights worked fine.

I agree, the first ten to fifteen minutes you keep listening for something to go wrong. Then you settle in for lots of smiletime....Jim
