New to the Group

Just a quick Hi to the group and to introduce myself.

for the past 15 years I have only had Jeeps (started with a CJ-7, then a Wrangler and for the last 3 years my Cherokee, have been a member of jeepsunlimited.com forums for a few years), I have a little side business fixing (or parting out if it is beyond repair) Cherokee's that I pick up at insurance, police or general auctions - towing them back with my Jeep while at times can be a little hairy it has always handled the job. A few months ago I got a steal on a 65 Thunderbird ($1,000 on ebay) that was in Virginia but had no way to tow it, ended up having it shipped, so I decided it was time to bite the bullet and get something that can handle towing these vehicles.

I found a 1988 GMC Suburban 6.2 4x4 (LOL ebay again $2,300). After what I am used to driving this burb is a beast but I enjoy it and as you will find out soon enough when i start posting, while I am very mechanically inclined (going on 26 years as a Crew Chief on Marine Corps Huey and Cobra Helicopters plus I hold my FAA Airframe/Powerplant Mechanic license) and really enjoy doing all my own wrenching/mod work I do not have a clue on what is involved with working the Duramax Diesel powerplant - the truck is in good condition body/interior wise but has developed some charging and tranny problems.

Glad to find this group

Gunny

Thumbs up

Welcome aboard!

I'm a bit the opposite. I've had my Suburban for over a decade. I only bought a Jeep a couple of years ago. :p I love 'em both, each a tool for a different purpose...

Welcome from one new member to another! I have went the JEEP route also, '46 CJ2A, '80 CJ5, '81 Wrangler, '49 & '50 WIllys wagons. They are all long gone, and now I ended up with a free '86 2wd 1/2 ton Suburban. I have a .30 over 350 to put in, gonna swap the 700R4 for a TH350, lower it a little, and drive the heck out of it. Good luck with your rig.
