Post Truck/Car show, 6-23, Winfield, KS

There is going to be a Truck and Car show in Winfield (45 miles south of Wichita) on Sunday, June 23rd. It will be located at the Cowley County Fairgrounds on Highway 160, on the west side of Winfield. It is a one day show, from 10-4. This is the first year of what we're hoping to be an annual event. The guy that is putting it on is a show veteran, and travels to a lot of shows, so therefore has a lot of contacts, and he is a truck guy too! Hope to see any members from the Wichita area, northern OKLA. area, and other points of this part of the universe. There will be no admission charged, so the price is right! Anyone wanting to enter a vehicle can contact Doug at 620-221-9523, entry fee is $12.00 before June 17th, and $15.00 after that date. He told me that there is also a Flea Market at the Fairgrounds that weekend, so maybe that will help some of you talk the girlfriend/wife into coming. Hope to meet some of you guys, LB.

I'll post this on our KSFBA.org board as well and see if some of our F-body guys with 67~72 trucks are interested. Wished mine was in condition to show.

I'm still hoping to be able to come, just not sure yet. My 7 year old and my wife have been in Winfield all week at a park for Girl Scouts. From my house my wife says the drive is like 45 minutes so that's not bad at all. Guess they are going to your town's swimming pool tomorrow.

Thanks for posting the info on the event. If I make it I will bring my digital camera and we can get lots of pics.

I'll be waiting by the truck! If I'm not there, just ask, I won't be too far away. Gotta keep this near the top, he-hee!

Well, gosh, I'm not sure, but if all else fails, it will probably be the one you see on the left. DUH!! I'm screwin' with ya 'cause I just couldn't resist after that question! Glad to see another member from Winfield on the board, we need to get more of these 67-72 owners around here to become a part of this merry litte group. I don't think there is an unfinished class, but there will undoubtedly be a lot of cool non-entry vehicles in the parking area. I'll be around my truck (that would be the one in the pic to the left), be sure and stop by and visit. Cya there!

I only live 1-1/2 hours away, so I'll try to make it. Can't beat that admission price. The Winfield Fairgrounds is a decent little place. I've camped there and launched my canoe from that boat ramp on the Walnut River before.

Question

Where are you from Batboy? Your sig just says Kansas, so I have no idea which direction to look for ya, he-hee. It sure would be nice if the weather would stay like it has been this past several days, this is dream weather. It is a perfect day here today, 68 degrees and no wind. Dorothy, are we still in Kansas?

I live in the middle of nowhere between Emporia and Topeka. I don't suppose there will be a swap meet too? Sounds like just a show. I always see nice rides in Ark City (10 miles from Winfield). Not that I mind, but I'm sure there will be quite a few "low riders" at the show. However, I'm more into trucks, 60's muscle cars, and vintage streetrods.

The guy putting on this show has a beautiful '65 Orange GTO, a cool truck, and loves hot rods, so that is what this show is geared towards, but there will be a little of everything, I'm sure. He is a long time member of the Ark City Tumbleweeds car club, but like many others, is getting fed up with the facilities and city government of Ark City, so decided to start something better. The fairgrounds here is capable of holding a very big car show with no problem, there is room for 10,000 people and vehicles easily, as proved by the Walnut Valley Bluegrass festival every Sept. which averages over 10,000, with most camping on the grounds. We're hoping this is the start of something big!

Question

Hey barn9, I'm also interested in the swap meet question. Do you know if there is an actual swap meet area or is it just a car/truck show with bikes also? My truck is getting closer to the finsihing stage but always like looking at others for ideas and comparisons. As an aside what am I doing wrong to post a smile or the Chevy smiling bowtie? Bear in mind I am no computer whiz so if anyone answers make it clear and simple like myself. Stroker, may see you there if you don't have to work and I don't get invited for the weekend.

I have been looking foward to this show, gives me a place to ride my bike to. Hey ironhorse, I live in wellington too, and in the middle of doing a 68 for my son. Good to see other guys in our area into these great trucks. I will be there Sunday riding a turquoise & white custom build V-twin, and hanging with my son and his green lowered 71 longbed, we should get together and swap ideas, I still got a long ways to go on the 68.

I have not heard anything about a swap meet involved, but it wouldn't surprise me to see some guys there with some stuff. Doug did tell me there were going to be a few vendors present, and that's all I know.

Ironhorse, after typing your message, just click on the smiley, bowtie, etc., and it will be added to the end of your post.

How about all of us parking together? I'll be there at 9 AM, and hope to get a shady spot. Bring your chairs and coolers, and we'll have a grand ol' time, he-hee! Glad to hear of more board members from this area, hope we can round up some more. Cya all Sunday!

Cool

Kid, will look for you at the Windfield show. See by your member registration you work at the "Big B" in Wichita. I also work at Boeing, I'm out on the flightline. Have you been able to dodge all the notices going out? I think I have seen the green lowred '71 you speak of. Is it a dark green long bed? Will be looking for all other members there in Winfield.

Ironhorse, I still got a job in plant 2, but took a bump out of CAU, better than out the door tho. Yea, my kids truck is dark green, I still get sick thinking about handing the keys over to my boy when he turned 16. ( two years ago) I had that pickup since about 1987. O-well, I still get to work on it. What color is your truck? I am sure I have seen it.

Barn9 - looking like I will be able to make it to the show! Could you do me a favor and check and see if your town's swimming pool is open Sunday, and if so, when it opens. My wife and kids might meet me up there to swim in the early afternoon if the pool is open.

Hey barn9, thanks for the assist in the smiles. Worked just fine, not sure what I was doing wrong before but then this computer always seems to have the upper hand. Will be looking for you Sunday. Have you heard anything about a swap meet/car auction ? this weekend in Wichita at the Coliseum?

Kid, I know what you are saying about the handing over of keys to the truck. I have a 16 year old myself who is just itching to get his hands on my truck. Not sure if you have seen my truck or not since it has not been on the road since last fall. When it was still almbulatory it had a faded lime? green paint on the body with a white cab. Currently residing at the body shop but hope to have if back within next 2-3 three weeks after complete body and interior color change. Not stock original color but it's my truck so will fix it to suit myself. It's getting closer and I'm getting itchy. MISS MY TRUCK ! something fierce. Even after I get it back still have to get the bed sprayed (thinking Line-ex), tint the windows, and a new dual exhaust system exiting at an angle behind the rear wheels. Nothing loud, I've outgrown that, just a good throaty rumble.
