New guy w/67 project
Really enjoy reading all the threads here. What a wealth of information and moral support! New guy moved into the neighborhood and had this sitting next to his garage. Every time I drove past it with my 15 yr old son, I would tell him about memories of the one I had in high school almost 30 yrs ago. My son and I drove by one day and it had a for sale sign in it. I slammed on the brakes and bought it. It runs great. Inline 250 6 cyl. Only difference between it and my first one is that this one is a 4 speed instead of a 3 spd column. I plan on doing to this one what I always wanted to do my first one but could never afford to. I picked up a short stepside bed and have a 403 Olds to put in it. Will also lower it some too. My Dad lives nearby and is excited to help also. It will be a 3 generation project. Will post pics as it progresses.

Man, that is an awesome story. And you know what, now that I think of it, that is what my dad did when I was 15. He used to have a 67 stepside way back when I Was 5-6, and I used to love riding in that thing. We woudl see them around town and reminisce since he had to sell it when we moved out here.
When I was 15, almost 16, my dad came home with a $1000 67 stepside GMC that he said he saw, slammed on the brakes and bought on the spot. I'm 26 now and since then that truck has been the 1 thing that brought us together more than any one thing in the world. That truck kept me on a straight path in life, and let me get to know my dad. It is a tribute to our ideas and holds years of memories together and years more to come. It is still "our" truck and always will be. Man, take advantage of the situation and do the same for your son...you will love it! Good luck in your truckin' adventures. Sorry, it sounded so cheesy, but this post just made me realize what that truck has done for me -Benson

Welcome to the board! Where are you from in AZ? I was born and raised in Show Low and those trees look awful familiar. I'm probably wrong but it looks a lot like the areas east of Show Low. Congradulations on finding such a clean project! My dad and I grew close in high school wrenching on a 62 longbed.

My Dad only likes riding in my cars, he never wants to come over to the house and work on them He always used to blabber on about his '67 GTO when I had my first Mustang (66) so I've been trying for years to get him to buy an old junker GTO for us to restore but he won't do it.
I did help (er, do it for him while he talked) him replace the struts on his new Pontiac..a 2001 Aztek :P |

Howdy and Welcome!
You will find this board to be your best tool in the undertaking of your 3 generational adventure! Sounds like you will have no problem getting to know the good stuff here from the , well, questionable contributions. Check the Review Board for vendors members have used and liked or disliked- some reviews here, as in most places, will be mixed, but you'll see who most like best. Best Regards, cowboy33713 |

NICE SCORE! Are you going with a shortbed frame, or are you going to shorten the frame that's currently under the truck? I think your truck has 84-88 toyota truck mirrors, I only comment on that 'cause I've owned three of the little boogers. Thought about putting a set on my 67 but never got around to it. Is it a true 4 speed or a granny 4 speed? Have fun with 'er.

67 project
I am going to shorten the frame. I have the front of a 72 GMC that has power steering and disc brakes that I am going to attach to the front of the 67 frame. I have no idea about the mirrors. I do know that the PO attached them so the wind wings will not open all the way. I am going to replave the doors anyway. I have a set pair of uncut (speaker holes) doors that have been sand blasted and are as close to perfect as you can get. The powder coater that I use had them sitting in the shop. I struck up a conversation with the owner about the project that I was working on, next thing I know he tells me that an ex employee left them there 2 years ago, along with 2 truck loads of other parts and they are mine if I haul them away. Quite a score. I have all the parts to do what I want now. It is just a matter of putting them all together.

welcome to the board from the rust belt.
Please do take the time to realize, and enjoy the time with both your dad and your son... Neither of mine want to have anything to do with any vehicle that is old or big or truckish or hot rodish.... |
