Disc Brakes on a 66
I have a 66 stepside that has some beautiful spun alumium 6 lug wheels on. my nephew bought the wheels several years ago when he owned the truck and paid a fortune for them.
I want to install disc brakes on the 66 so I bought a doner 78 chevrolet to get the motor, transmission, and front end. My question is can I use 6 lug rotors from a later model truck? or will I have to go to LMC truck or another company to get what I need. Last edited by The Hogdoctor; 12-08-2005 at 11:43 PM. |

You can adapt the front end from the 78 to fit your 66. You will need to buy 6 lug rotors from one of the aftermarket companies. It would cost you more in machine shop charges to redrill 5 lug rotors than to just buy them from those companies.

I Bought a set of these
The guy is a SEMA member and does super high quality work. I was in a similar situation, had some wheels I wanted to use with the wrong lug pattern. I called him a we talked about my application to determine the best specs for it. I have been running them about a year now. I've never had an issue and feel no wheel vibration. The people who tell you "never run adapters" have only had experience with cheap cast ones. Here's a pic of mine installed: It's an option, but you can't avoid some spacing with them. In my case it worked out well. |
