what would fit ? i need to put in a small v8 with auto trans and hopefully power steering because i have some bad back problems and sometimes cant shift the old three on the tree.I was thinking about a small 283 or 305?
Anybody ever swap from the 6 to v8 on a budget?
whats a good donor vehicle to look for?

To install the auto trans, you need to chopp out the bell crossmember. the v8 is set on different stands from the factory(slides the eng ahead approx 3 1/2"). You can however set it in on the 6/250 stands & set it up . I like to drill the holes in eng mount stands to 5/8", & slot the trans crossmember holes(the ones in the center), to give a little adjustment(the HEI dist fits really tight. I run the later style long water pump & accsessoris on my longhorn to get the fan in proper location without 5 " of spacer. On the exhaust, you can run the center dump rams horns(angled back dumps are the easiest to work with), or headers, I have run both headman & hooker.....just depends on the budget. of coarse you will have trans coolant lines to deal with, & you will need to replace the column & auto trans linkage, or go to an aftermarket floor shifter( I used a B&M z gate).The short tail 350T should be the proper lenght /spline for your drive line. good luck......Al
