Portable Carports

My Burb is about 6 inces too long for my new garage So I went looking for one of the portable ones y'know with the poles and canvas/aluminum. I checked Sears, Home Depo, Only one I found, is with just a top cover, it had no sides, and I want as much protection for my truck as possble. Any suggestions?? This is a rental house so I cant "attach" or "build" anything to it, (knocking out the wall already crossed my mind) Thanks in advance !!!!!!

Hi there Jodie! My brother bought one of those for his extended cab pickup. Used it a few years and the tarp gave it up. So he went and bought some corrugated metal at Home Depot and drilled and bolted that to the frame. He extended it down the sides to about 3' from the bottom. He also extended the length by 2' in the front and back. Turned out looking surprisingly good. He had to add a small piece of metal to the ends to keep the metal from flapping in the wind. All in all, not a bad carport for the money spent.

Jodie, get a Hemmings Motor News. I know they have a bunch advertised in there. How is the A/C working?

I recently bought a "portable" style carport. One of the $595.00 ones that you see for sale up here in Va. The guys that put it up rolled. They were in and gone in an hour and a half tops. They are some good quality carports that can easily be enclosed. I'm sure that they probably have them near you too. I upgraded and got the taller one for more roof clearance. Hopefully, I am planning on building a garage in summer 2004, I can put this behind it, enclose it and use it for a spray booth...................JB

Try Costco. I've seen them there lots of times. Watch out with those portable carports though as the wind can get them real easy and beat the h&ll out of your truck in the process. I've watched the wind get two of the larger ones and blow them around. It wasn't pretty.

My carport was put in the ground with 4- 6ft long ground rod type anchors. You can even add some more if you want. I'm not saying that they will stop a hurricane or anything like that, but we have had some heavy winds since I got mine and I haven't had a single problem.............JB

695 here

For ones with a hard roof and I have seen ppl add sides to them. You do have to anchor them down good though.

Thanks guys!!! I appreciate all the info!! Lots to choose from, never knew there were so many.
68 Burb, The a/c works fine, a little too much condensation on the inside of my truck for my liking, and mabey Im too much of a perfectionist, but I think they could have been a little "neater" with the install, under the hood wise, just seems like they randomly bolted stuff in there. The unit itself works great, but Id NEVER recommend the Beavis and Butthead team that installed it. Modesto Auto Air on McHenery ave, Modesto Ca.
Ill try to get some pics of it all and post them, The way I look at it, its better than not having air at all.,
Thanks again!!!!
