I have a 06 GMC CC and love it. Just over 4000 miles on it now so now problems other than a defective wiper motor switch.

Re: thinking of buying '05 crewcab

I have an 05 2wd CC. I had to have the front brakes turned at 6k miles because the rotors were warped and had 1/4" wide grooves in them. I am at about 10k now and they need to be turned again.

I have a wonderful thumping sound coming from the steering culumn. I am not sure if it's the steering shaft slip joint that GM refuses to fix, or the uppper part of the shat that inside the cab.

What ever you do, don't get the 3.42 gears. This thing is slower than a squished turd once I put the 22's on it...

I'm glad I'm not the only one who had to have the rotors turned, I had mine done at 12k. I know I drive the doo doo out of it, but I usually get at least 30k out of most of my other vehicles. Don't complain about the 3.42s either, you could have 3.23s. N2TRUX, are those Eagle 026's? Look closely in the back of my truck and you'll see the 20s I just too off (way heavier than my new Gibbs).

Here's my progress on the '06...

Yep, that's them. I looked at a gazillion wheels and couldn't find anything I liked. The Eagles have been done to death, but they still look good.

I like your Gibbs wheels. You have any of the other accessories that went with that package?

Re: thinking of buying '05 crewcab

I have an 06 with 3.73's and I love it. The only thing I don't like is the payment. It will probably get sold soon. If I didn't have to make a monthly payment you would never be able to pry the keys from my hands.

Re: thinking of buying '05 crewcab

Thanks for all the input guys! I think my wife wants a newer Tahoe, suits up better anyway. She wanted the 3rd row seat when i got the 98 but couldn't afford the new bodystyle at the time. Ah well I will keep mine until a good deal comes through the dealership that i can't refuse.

Nope, I just yanked them from a memeber on pt.net and tossed them on there, I do have a painted front bumper on the way though. It's my dd, I have my Camaros if I want to do anything remotely fun.

If you want an 01 GMC Yukon I know someone who has one. It only has 2 rows of seats though.

Re: thinking of buying '05 crewcab

i've got an 05 crew cab Z71 with every option out there and love it.as far as performance,i don't think they were designed to be as$haulers.it's the most comfortable "truck" i've ever owned.qoute on truck it's really a tahoe with a little bed.to me half tons are pickups.you need to get into 3/4 and up to be called a truck.

If you do get one, get the front buckets. There is a night and day difference in the 40/20/40 bench and the buckets. It also usually means Bose, too.

Re: thinking of buying '05 crewcab

I have the 40/20/40 and my dad has the buckets. Our drivers and passengers seats are the same. I prefer my 40/20/40's over his buckets. I love having that center seat to prop the guns against while we are hunting. They are nice when the wife wants to get close too

Re: thinking of buying '05 crewcab

I searched specifically for a truck with the front bench. I haul my supplies for work in the bed and back seat. When I pick up my daughter from school she usually has a friend that needs a ride home. I would have to re-arrange everything is I had buckets. All I have to do now is flip the console up and we all fit...

Re: thinking of buying '05 crewcab

Steering thump is easily fixed with the new tsb of "stroking the shaft up and down. Same thing occurs in the Tahoe. My wife just got an '05 Tahoe and is happy with it. I haven't had any issues with brakes on my Z71. Did a back check on warranty service and nothing.

I have another one, the grey is textured plastic and paint won't work unless you fill it and sand it. A new smooth cover was only $50, so I saved the labor and will just paint the new one.

I'd be interested is seeing that. I was going to have my bumper painted, but if its easier/cheaper to go the way your going I'll have to get some more info.
Also where did you get it from?

Re: thinking of buying '05 crewcab

I nabbed it off eBay, it is definately easier this way, and if you're patient it can be cheaper, just wait until you find a good deal. I'll throw some pics up in a couple of weeks when I get done.

I'm comparing this truck to my 04 Dodge Quadcab. Both of them are 1500s and the Dodge has much more of a "truck" suspension. The Dodge will run circles around this truck.

I know the 3.42's make it slower, but I think the Dodge would blow away GM trucks with 3.73's as well. GM Missed the target with the power band on the 5.3 in a truck.

It's a slow turd.....

your probably right the dodge will out run it.my point is,i didn't buy this truck with the notion that it was going to be fast.it doesn't even enter my mind when i drive it.to me it's not a performance vehicle it's about a quite comfortable ride for 4 adults.which in my opinion it does very well.i've owned lots of performance vehicles as i'm sure you have too.so to me,it's two different frames of mind when driving, two different based vehicles.i guess not everybody look's at like i do.that's what makes the world go round. by the way the 22's look awesome.i'm wondering if your overall tire dimension changed enough to affect anything.is it less responsive with the 22's?
