Steering boxes & columns

I'm looking at a '91 C3500 crewcab. Been parts robbed, but good sheet metal and frame.

What steering boxes and steering columns will fit it or interchange with other year models and/or 1500 or 2500?

Will need power steering box, but tilt-steering wheel un-important.
Any help appreciated,
Thanks

Re: Steering boxes & columns

You might want to clarify a bit:
Is your truck a 1991 old body (73-87) or new body (88-98)?

They may interchange for all I know?

Chris, Chris, Chris...... I am ashamed..... 91 CREW CABS are the old square body.....

GM didn't convert the crew cabs and Suburbans to the "Classic" body ( 88-98) until 92......

DISCLAIMER- I know Chris H and give him crap whenever I can.

Does the truck in question have hydro boost? That means it utilizes the steering pump to provide boost for the power brakes. That will determine what you can interchange with the truck. Most one ton single wheel stuff from 81 and up should work. You might even be able to use a 2500 box on it if it doesn't have hydro boost.

Sterring columns should be pretty inmterchangeable with any truck from that era. I don't know of any significant difference on the 1 tons.

Re: Steering boxes & columns

A truck pic is posted in 88-98 thread under GMC V-12 powered 91 Chev crewcab, if that will help. Truck is stripped both under hood and in cab. No steering box or brake booster, but it will get a vacuum booster, with a steering pump on motor when they are replaced. I've found an '87 steering box and column which look like they will fit.
I think I should have put this question in the other category. Thanks for the help.
