It followed me home....

can I keep it... I am getting this running for a friend that owns a scrap yard. I have told him I want it, and he said we will work something out! It was an original 396 but now has a small block. It still has the 400 turbo and the 60 series dana posi, the BB motor mounts, and the 4 core radiator. He is gonna drive it for a week or so, then I think I will get it. Here are the pics, and a question or two.
1) how odd is it that it has a wooden floor?
2) and that it is a coil sprung 3/4 ton...

Re: It followed me home....

Nice Burb! Hope you get to keep it. All Suburbans had a wood rear floor. I belive that 3/4 ton 2 wheel drives could be either leafs or coil springs in the rear.

Re: It followed me home....

This is the first one I have ever seen up close, and never really paid attention to the rear floor, that is cool! I have seen 3/4 ton pickups with the coil rear, so I figured that was not really out of the ordinary.

Re: It followed me home....

Bob, the C20 burb that I owned a while back and just recently traded for bodywork on my 2wd had the coil spring rear also and the wood bed. Don't know if it was odd or not. Nobody ever said it was.

Does it have the rear air?

The liftgate opens and closes perfect, but it does have a pretty good sized hole in the right lower corner, and a smaller one in the other side. The tailgate is pretty solid. The worst part that I have seen is the drivers door. It is GONE. It has had a inner lower section put on it, and has been welded up in the hinge area. It needs a starter solenoid, and it has a leaking fuel line. After I fix those tomorrow, I am hoping to hear it run. If I get it, I need to find a big block to put back in it...then the bodywork...oh no not again...

I found out that ALL Suburbans have wood floors in the back. I'm just a dumb truck guy, I never knew that. It has no a/c at all. It is a pretty plain jane 3/4 ton but has potential I think.

Re: It followed me home....

Update: I got it running ( Starter solenoid and battery cables) put 2 quarts of oil and 3 quarts of ATF in it, and it drives!! I called to say it was done, he asked if I wanted it, I said yes. He said to keep it here until we work out a price. I am going to try for $500 to $750. It is here for now, hope it stays...
