And so it begins....my 67 C10 SWB money pit

I've been a member of this site for awhile now and have always wanted a 67-72 C10, but it wasn't until last month that I found what I was looking for. I bought a 67 C10 SWB farm truck that has lived it's whole life here in the desert. It's pretty well optioned for a 67: CST, bucket seats, 327 with TH400, push button radio, hubcaps, wood bed, power steering, large rear window, gauge package (but no tach), factory A/C, speed warning indicator...

I found it on craigslist during my lunch break and jumped in my truck to go look at it. The truck looks completely unmolested so I was convinced it was the stock engine and transmission, but when I went to look at it, the block had been decked at some point, so the stamp pad was blank. I was a little disappointed, but the truck is almost completely rust free so I had to buy it. The only rust is a spot on the passenger's floor board from a leaky heater core. While I stood there looking at the truck the guy got 4 more calls on it so I decided it wasn't worth haggling the price, so I gave the guy $3900 for the truck, which I knew was a good deal. The wood bed is rotted out and there are a few dents in it, but still well worth the money in my mind. Here are a few pictures of the truck.

The last 2 pictures show a dent on the driver's side cab and door, which worries me the most. I was hoping not to have to replace any sheetmetal, but I don't see how I can repair it...

Wow... That's a "solid" start for a project. Nice score. Can't wait to see some progress.

Nice score and those dents are nothing. In the right hands they will look like it never happened. Oh and the red spot on the pass floor is not rust that is anything bad. Just wire wheel that spot and spray some primer sealer on it and a cote of color over that and call it good! Well worth the cost you paid and once the DropMember goes in you will have a very nice ride

Re: And so it begins....my 67 C10 SWB money pit

Thanks for all the feedback! I'm looking forward to making some progress. It's so tempting to just start pulling things apart, but I'm going to do things right. I'm putting a good plan in place this time around. I had a 67 F*rd F-100 stepside when I was in high school that I learned my lesson on.

I've gotta find a good body man to help me out. Gonna hit up a couple local car shows and ask around. Hopefully I'll get lucky and find a reputable guy that does good work in a timely fashion.....I know, keep dreamin!

I know! Sheesh, that's makes my truck look like a rusted hulk (which it wasn't.)

Great find!

I wish my '67 was that clean when I got it.

I'm way jealous. Awesome find! Too bad its not a step-side... J/K

Good luck with the build and please keep us updated with your progress.

Re: And so it begins....my 67 C10 SWB money pit

Wow, awesome deal! and welcome from AZ! I wouldn't worry about the dents at all, it won't take much to straiten them out. I wouldn't pay someone to do that, you can do it yourself with a little help/instruction and will save bundle. I won't worry about the block being decked either, just means it's been rebuilt at some point and has a better chance of being usable for awhile.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I've never done any sheetmetal work before but I guess there is no better time to learn than now.

Thanks, I'd really appreciate that. What part of town are you on?

Once I get my garage organized this weekend I'm going to start pulling things apart and get some sand blasting done so I know the true condition of my truck.

Nice truck!

The dents aren't a big deal. A good body man would be able to get them out and repaired relatively easily. (Stud welders are a great thing )

great deal on a sweet truck i sure wouldnt get in a hurry to tear that baby apart. drive it some see what it needs, figure out what you want from it. then figure out like and dislike about it, how you wanna change itfor the better, collect what you need then tear into her. just my .02$ for what it's worth

Haha...minimal rust on our vehicles is our reward for tolerating the 120 degree weather during the summer

My thoughts exactly, I am going to give a stud welder a shot at those dents first

That's good advice, the only problem is the truck smokes pretty bad so its not really drivable. Plus, since the bed is rotted out it really isn't much of a truck...lol
