What is this powder on my carb?

Guys I am putting my truck back together and I found this powder in the carb. What is it? As you can see from the picture it is bright yellow, I had a PVC valve running from my valve cover to that port.

Thanks

It looks like sulfur, but i have no idea why sulfur would be in there. Does the powder smell bad?

Re: What is this powder on my carb?

Humm, looks like an additive in the oil coming back as a powder.

Or sulpher, what kind of oil are you using?

Never have seen that one......

Re: What is this powder on my carb?

Is it a new carb? Did it come out of the box that way or did it appear from the carb sitting around? Was it near anything that could of leaked into the carb and dried to create that powder? Electrolysis? What does the PCV valve look like?

Curious though, how\what could create sulphur?

Re: What is this powder on my carb?

It doesn't smell like sulfur, i didn't try the taste test . The only other thing I can think that did to is was ran it through the parts cleaner but again something had to be there in the first place to turn yellow.

Re: What is this powder on my carb?

How long have you owned the truck?? To me it looks like a tracer dye.. it is made to put in the oil to pin point the source of leaks... They also make it for A/C systems and other fluids as well... Normally you have to use a UV light to see it but that is not always true.. Good luck... Then again have you ever seen Ghostbusters??

Re: What is this powder on my carb?

I bought the carb new back in 2001, I will never forgot because I was putting my new engine in, skipping school and listening to the radio. It was Semptember 11. I probaly only have 5000 miles on the carb. If nothing else I will just clean it out really well and check it in 500-1000 miles again.

Re: What is this powder on my carb?

That sure looks like a lot of powder coming out of that tube!

When you pulled the hose off, did it pour from the hose or did you scoop it out of the carb vacuum port?

Something's not right. If that much contamination was coming from the oil and being sucked into the carb, you'd be able to detect it. Or, there would be black goo mixed in with it. It just looks too clean to have come from the engine.

I'd suspect carb internal contamination or fuel contamination...

68gmsee, you just might have something there...fuel varnish deposits? Seems to me I've seen something similar on the back of valves.

Stop peeing in your gas tank, it won't increase your mpg.

Holy crap, don't sniff that stuff. Put it in baggies and sell it to the local junkies.
Looks like something the 'ricers' would do. Add yellow powder-coating powder to produce a cool yellow fog when they launch away from that '30-something-year-old-junk-pile-you-call-a-truck'

But I do agree with everyone else. That sure looks like yellow powder.

Re: What is this powder on my carb?

Definitely looks like sulphur.

If it was near the air filter, I'd say it might be pollen on a long shot but this is coming from the PCV so I don't know.

Re: What is this powder on my carb?

I have seen fuel varnish deposits like that before, just not quite that much... Also have you had that carb for a while, or did you recently get it, reason I'm asking is because it looks like fire extinguisher powder also.

Its your truck giving you hints on new color choices for the outside. Looks like Corvette Yellow to me.

Re: What is this powder on my carb?

I did some looking around and the best that I can come up with is that it is oxidized metal. What type of fuel / additives are you running? It could be a byproduct of some fuel additive-

Or it could be the teacher who's class you were skipping to put that carb on playing a joke on you...
